Need Advice on Situation
OK, so I started my temporary/contract position today. It went ok, but I'm less confident about it becoming permanent in three months so I definitely need to keep searching. So, what do I tell employers, even in my cover letter, in regards to what I'm doing now? Do I just say I'm engaged in a short-term contract b/c I wanted to gain new experience? How do I word it AND do I put it on my resumse?
TIA!

Refresh my memory, what led you to this contract position? Why did you leave your previous job?

Re: Need Advice on Situation
Basically I was really unhappy at my old place, good salary but lousy benefits, commute to the city.
I too this b/c the CEO made me confident she would find a place for me if the person I am covering for (on maternity leave) does end up coming back, now I'm not so sure that I am there.

Sure, wanting to gain more experience is always a good thing. You could always say that if they ask on an interview.
I would put the position on your resume, but I wouldn't go into detail about it in a cover letter.
ETA: Can you get confirmation from the CEO where you currently are what their plans are for you?

I'm trying to but keep getting mixed signals. When I first met with her she of course was confident about finding me a spot. But today she was saying how its a few months, its strange.

Re: Need Advice on Situation
I hate to be up front about this, but from an HR view, she should have never told you there was a possibility of the person coming back or not. She should have left it as a temp / contract position. What she did was open a can of worms and misled you a little, I think. If they ask on interviews, just say you are contracting right now to gain more experience in the field, work in a diff environment etc, put a really positive spin on it and looking for a new opp to advance in your career.

This is soo helpful, thank you! That's a good idea to tell people. I know it was wrong of her to even comment on the woman's position and I think they did mislead me, hopefully I didn't mess things up for myself in the long run.
