Friday's Gossip
Mary-Louise Parker is single again - but this time, we hear, it's her decision.
Four years ago, Billy Crudup pulverized Parker's heart when he dumped her two months before she gave birth to son William. Crudup quickly recoupled with Claire Danes (that romance fizzled a few months back). But it wasn't until last December that Parker found a hunky replacement in Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Judah Botwin, the late husband of Parker's pot-dealing character, Nancy, in Showtime's "Weeds."
"She's the best person I've ever met," Morgan recently told an interviewer. "It wasn't something I was looking for, and I don't think she was either, but it's going great."
In February there were whispers of trouble, but Parker and Morgan dispelled them with several public displays of affection. But now, we hear, they've hit a wall. Friends say Morgan feels she's not making enough time for him. Parker begs to differ.
"I'm a mother and my son will always get the majority of my attention," she was overheard telling a lunch pal at Ammo in L.A.
While NYC-based Parker is on the California set of "Weeds," it remains to be seen if Morgan will return for any more erotic dream sequences. His rep didn't call back. Hers said, "I have no comment."
The L.A. County district attorney has thrown out the complaint of a woman who accused Lindsay Lohan of stealing more than $5,000 worth of stuff from her apartment while she was out of town. The self-proclaimed "victim" gave cops pictures of Lindsay in clothing the woman claimed the actress had taken from her closet, reports TMZ.com. Prosecutors were unbelieving. Meanwhile, Lindz had no shortage of clothes at Wednesday's Maxim Hot 100 party. She switched from a summery rainbow frock to a slinky black-and-blue number after a perfectly timed 21/2-hours-late entrance that created a paparazzi madhouse. Inside, La Lohan held court at a private booth with a gaggle of friends and insufferable boy toy Calum Best. Also there: Jay-Z, Hilary and Haylie Duff, and Avril Lavigne, who made out with hubby Deryck Whibley between sips of Cuervo.
Jessica Simpson made her first Cannes appearance Wednesday, partying with studio mogul Harvey Weinstein after the screening of "My Blueberry Nights." Jude Law, who stars in the film, seemed to find the "Dukes of Hazzard" star out of place at the venerable film fest. "What's she doing here?" Law whispered to agent Patrick Whitesell, a spy tells us. The unstoppable blond will announce her next film, "Major Movie Star," there today.
THE question on everyone's mind at the Operation Smile benefit the other night was: Where is Jessica Simpson? The chesty singer has been a huge supporter of the cause for 10 years but stopped after her well-publi cized trip to Africa for the charity last year, and her split from hubby Nick Lachey. "She's turned her back on them," the spy said. "She got a lot of good publicity from the charity but re fused to let pictures of her be in the com memorative book and hasn't done anything with them in a year." A rep for Simpson said she was in Ger many being honored at the UNESCO Gala to Benefit Children in Need, "partly for her work with Operation Smile. Jess was one of four honorees for her philanthropic work. She sang two songs, and the event raised about $3 million to build schools all over the world."
A VERY brave maitre d' bounced Ice T and Coco from a bottle-service table at Maxim's Hot 100 party at Ono in the Gansevoort Hotel to make room for Hilary and Hayley Duff Wednesday night. "Coco was p - - - ed," our sources report. Also braving the huge line snaking around the hotel were Lindsay Lohan and Calum Best, Jay-Z, Avril Lavigne, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell, Megan Fox (the hottie in the upcoming "Transformers" movie) and Richie Rich and Amanda Lepore. The Gansevoort is where Maxim is launching its first in a chain of Maxim Prime steakhouses with Jeffrey Chodorow.
ANNE Heche had a whale of a time at the Entertainment Weekly bash at The Box the other night with her new man, "Men in Trees" co-star James Tupper. Spies said Heche - who also partied with "Lipstick Jungle" star Lindsay Price, series creator Candace Bushnell, Danny Masterson, newly engaged Kate Walsh, Justin Chambers and Ellen Pompeo - had so much fun, she had to be helped out of the club in the wee hours.
