Vent about a friend

ok, would this bother you all.

I have this friend who I have known for 16 years. We used to be closer, but she is still single (sorta) and now I'm married, etc. So we moved into our new condo in the beginning of March. All my other friends have come by and saw it. Some even traveled a far distance. Even my friend in Florida asks "how's the place?" and "Can't wait to see it in June". Well this same friend has a new man in her life who lives 2 blocks away from our new condo and she goes over to his place like twice a week. I expressed my frustration this weekend and she laughed it off (as usual). Now, this is a friend that I have woke up early to see her finish races (she is an athletic). She lives in Nesconset and we now live in Holbrook (right around the corner from her new man). When I suggested her coming over, she wanted to go out to dinner instead and stated "we'll meet you at the resturant". Completely negated the fact that I wanted her to see our new place. Plus, when she wanted to go out to eat she wanted to go somewhere expensive. She fails to realize that we don't have loads of money to throw around. Sorry for the vent, she just called to ask if I wanted to get ice cream some night this week. I don't know.

P.S. Katie, don't say anything because I know you know who I'm talking about.

Yeah, I'd be annoyed. I've had similar situations and I just don't get it. If I am in a friend's area, I make an effort to see them, especially if I frequent their area!!!!

Re: Vent about a friend

It would bother me a little. Maybe she is jealous or maybe she just doesn't "get it". Meaning she doesn't understand what a big deal it is to buy a home and all the costs involved.

I've had people in my life that ALWAYS picked expensive restaurants when we would go out together, even when DH and I were saving for our wedding and they knew this. DH eventually said something to them about it, in a nice way, and now they pick less expensive places when dining with us.

Some people are just weird. My uncle used to go to the Barnes & Noble right near where my mother lived but would never visit with her then say we should GTG.

I understand where you are coming from but what i have found is that while I was so excited about my new home and wanted everyone to come see it, some people just dont care about that stuff. My guess is that she is one of them. combine that with the fact that it sounds like she has never owned a place of her own so she probably doesnt understand all the hard work you have put into this new home and how important it is to you. I would try not to let it bother you.

Re: Vent about a friend

Could it be that she is jealous maybe?
Some people can't stand to see others get things they dont' have.
She is single and you are married with a new home now.
It might bother her so she avoids coming by.
That's the only thing I could think of.
Some people are very jealous by nature-I am learning that more and more lately!

I've known her for 16 years, its def. not jealousy. She does this to all my friends. She is a very "me" person if you know what I mean. She probably doesn't realize it, but when I did bring it up to her, she laughed it off. I'll just let it go, but we'll see.

I agree with this. Maybe she just does not understand or maybe she's jealous. It would bother me too.

If she does this to everyone, then I agree that it probably isn't jealousy. Does she expect everyone to jump for her though when she has something wonderful in her life to share? Maybe treat her the same way when it's her turn?

Re: Vent about a friend

I think she sounds like one of those people that is so wrapped up in her relationship right now and doesn't know how to balance friends and the guy. I am sure we all know people like that. I know it is hard but I would just leave her alone for a while and see if she comes around and realizes she upset you.

Re: Vent about a friend

sometimes you have to wonder if they are really your friends when they are unwilling to wish you well or share in your joy.

most likely they are too wrapped up in their own feelings - ie. they are SELFISH - to realize how important this is to you.

don't let it bother you.

I think she might be jealous b or she might just be self centered and just think about herself, I would seriously sit down with her and say i dont like you laughed about how i feel when i tell you something, tell her you been there for her so many times in her life and you would like her to recipercate and be there for you and see Your new condo. and if she still does not understand or care about your feelings than i would take a break from this friend until she Understands. I am sorry you are going through this.

Re: Vent about a friend

I don't really think I would be annoyed but that's just me. One of my good friends just saw my house for the first time about three months ago and we have lived here for over two years, I really didn't think twice about it.

Have you come out and said to her "I want you to come over to see my new place?" - Sometimes people are just clueless.
