Where would you choose to move?
I have a dilema. I'm looking to move my family to West Babylon or Lindenhurst. Where would you choose and why. My kids will be middle school and elementary age.

Re: Where would you choose to move?
I would move to whichever town would afford me and my family the best life within our budget. My decision would be based on schools, neighborhoods, housing prices, crime, etc. I don't think I could just randomly choose a town without doing any of that research.
If the towns were "tied" then it would come down to wherever I found a house that I loved.

Re: Where would you choose to move?
I have been researching and I'm still torn. I've also asked people who have children in the schools. I'm getting mixed information. My concern is the schools mostly.

Re: Where would you choose to move?
Linenhurst high school is on the list of schools that isnt performing to well.
There elementary schools are excellent though - my cousins are in the system and are very bright - they have gifted programs.
I think Lindenhurst might be larger than West Babylon, but imnot 100% sure. lindenhurst has 6? elementary schools - but the schools are small, my cousin has about 75 kids in the fifth grade with her.

west babylon-better schools, and (according to what real estate agents would say-so dont flame me!) more desirable town.

I am from WB..a product of the school. HIGH QUALITy EDUCATIOn... and I am sorry but the Lindy Village is scary and horrible with all the teenagers or jr. high schoolers there.

I used to teach in WB Jr. High, and thought it was a great school with really good programs.

a lot of towns are changing. and definitely don't want to sound racist or anything but i know a lot of a kind of people moving there b/c they are targeting the area. i don't want to be more specific but like why massapeaqua mall is changing.

the villiage of Lindenhurst is anything but scary
unless a Church, a couple of banks, a bakery and restaurants frighten you.

I thought R/Es werent supposed to comment on schools?
i wouldnt take their word for it, try www.greatschools.net.
ETA: I just went on greatschools.net and did a comparison of WB High and LIndy High- they were pretty much the same within a % or two - same amount of teachers per student - lindy had a lower % of kids eligible for reduced price lunches (7% vs 13% for WB)- other than that they scored the same.

no... I meant that according to agents, w babylon was considered "more desirable" than Lindenhurst-not bc of the schools-the school being better was my own understanding.

Re: Where would you choose to move?
We are in the middle of buying a house in Lindenhurst and we love the town & the Village. Lots of stores near by. The schools are pretty good too. Looking at GreatSchools.net like the other poster said is the best thing to do. Good Luck in your search. Maybe drive around the two towns for yourself and try to make more of a decision. GL!

Re: Where would you choose to move?
having worked in the Lindy schools high school and elem. I cannot compare them to many other schools, but the things I have heard from students and teachers, and saw myself, did not make me like the schools at all.

Re: Where would you choose to move?
I would go with WB, great schools, nice town...and I'm biased b/c I grew up there and my parents still live there. Two of my friends just bought houses there.
Lindy village isn't scary, actually, they've done a great job of updating it, lots of new little businesses. But, the Lindenhurst schools aren't as good as WB, at least at the JH and HS level.
