Is it wrong of me to be a little smug?
So growing up, I was a B student, but overall a pretty good kid. However, I always got crap about not getting straight A's like my cousins. I would get, "If you just try harder, you could get straight a's like B and E" and oh "E is reading on a 5th grade level and he's in 1st"
Well, one dropped out of college and has just proposed to his g/f of 2 weeks (he's 20, she's 19) and has moved in with her. The other one just got expelled from breaking and entering his Catholic HS and stealing.
Meanwhile, I'm married, and have my master's degree... my husband is about to get his EDs. And we're doing well.
Is it wrong of me to feel a little good about this? I mean, I hate that my cousins are doing this, but at the same time, after being told how wonderful they were for getting straight A's all those years, and why I couldn't do as well as them, I'm feeling kind of good. Is that so wrong?

Honestely I think you are entitled to be proud of your accomplishments.
During my childhood, my last living grandmother always went on and on about my cousins and how great they were- ended up that none went to college, one got PG before marriage, one ran away from home etc
I am happliy married, moved out of the city, went to college and have a steady job. To be honest, I have feelings like smugness too

I don't know if I'd feel smug, but their parents should feel ashamed about their children having done so well yet lacking morals and stealing! With family I always just feel badly for them when I see things like this happen though.

be very proud of yourself!!
sometimes things like "book smarts" come naturally while others have to work really hard. If things like grades came easily when you were little it might be a huge shock when you get to college and have to actually study. But if you always worked hard then you are not in for that same shock.
