Looks like we're moving again...

DH and I have moved 6 times in the last 7 years w/ college, and job changes, etc.

And it looks like we'll be moving yet again this summer. We don't have a ton of furniture, but honestly, I'm tired of moving it, and I think we've run out of friends to help us.

We know a U-Haul is much cheaper... but I'm leaning toward a company just to save some of the hassle.

We've just got a 1-br full of stuff, but we'd likely be moving into a townhome.

Would you spring for the movers, or slug it out on your own?

I would do it ourselves, but that is because we have lots of family and friends here to help us. If it was just the 2 of us, I would hire the movers.

I'd want to spring for the movers but I know DH wouldn't and we'd wind up doing it ourselves!

i'd get the movers. DH and I have moved 4 times (though one time it was just down the hall to a bigger apartment so really it's 3 times.) The two "real" moves were done on our own. It was grueling! The third real move - where we are now, from our 1-bed apartment to a 3-bed house - we sprung for the movers and it was worth every penny! Packing and unpacking is tiring enough. I doubt we'll ever move ourselves again.

movers- I have moved every 2 years since I was 18 and I just hired movers for the last time (I didn't have that much stuff before)

so worth it

we mostly likely have to move again in the fall- and I would hire movers again

I'd get movers too. We are moving this month for the 5th time in 4 years. We had always just rallied friends or done it ourselves, but last year we finally got movers and it was a god send and totally worth the money.

We have to get them this move, I will be less than one month pp and I can't physically handle what I usually do.

we've hired movers for all of our moves. it's just a lot of work and imo it's a lot to expect family and friends to help out with. to us it's worth the money not to have to worry about it.

if you have the money, than a mover. We did a uhaul because it saved us so much money in the long run.

I say spring for the movers!

I was always one to ask my friends to help me move, but then I got into a pattern of moving every 2 years -- 1997, 1999 and 2001. I felt that I had asked for enough favors after the move in 1999. I think by then I had run through all the willing friends I had and didn't want to ask the same people twice, so I hired movers.

As it turned out, some of my friends called me to offer their help when I moved in 2001 because I hadn't asked them, but I think they all appreciated the fact that I wasn't depending on them to help me anymore.

Thanks so much! I was leaning toward the movers, but I just didn't know if it was worth it for one bedroom. We're not certain we're moving yet, but I think I know what's going to happen if we do :)

I've moved myself with the help of family & friends for years, and it's generally been fine, esp. if there aren't many stairs involved.

We'll be hiring movers this time though. I'm pregnant, so DH would be stuck with most of the lifting.

Movers. I am not the type to do things myself. Thats just me though.

We have moved quite a bit - and we only do movers now...LOL
