XP from HOME boards

good evening...

I know this topic probably doesn't belong here.. but this board has a lot of traffic...but I would appreciate any and all help that I can get!

DH & I are interested in buying a home and we're going to start looking soon. I was thinking that the first step would be to get pre-approved first? and then shop for homes that are within our range based on the pre-aprroval. So here's my question.. Where should we go to apply for a mortgage? I was thinking of going to our bank and seeing what they have to offer?

I'm a bit nervous about going to a mortgage company that an R.E.A. would recommend. I used to work in a R.E. office and I saw all the scams that were pulled btwn the r.e.a & the mortgage company. They ripped off the buyers big time!

TIA for all of your advice and input!

chrissy

yes, you should get pre-approved first. you'll know your buying power and will have the ability to move quickly on a house that you like. go to your bank first that you bank with now. they will give you a good rate just to keep your business. but definitely shop around.

ITA> Also, consider opening an account with a credit union. Had we gone through our credit union (that became available to us AFTER we moved) we would have saved about $270 per month on our mortgage.

Good luck!
