I spoke to Fred on the phone just now
how silly am I?
I hooked up his phone and we chatted for a few minutes. He doesn't remember a lot of things and he knows it, but I told him that's ok. He's getting better and that will come back too.
I think memory is his biggest problem. I hope it gets better.
I asked him if he wants to talk to his son and if I should have mom call him. he said yes!
Holy crap..two weeks ago this never would have happened.

i just found out from his cardiologist that they want to do an angiogram tomorrow..now that he is better neurologically (not great) but better they want to do a full work up on his coronary condition.
They may also have to put in a pace maker. Oy! I thought I was having a nice Sunday and now I'm stressing over this.
The doc doesn't think that he would do open heart surgery on him at this point if he needed it anyway, but he may do a stent if he has to.
Either way, this delays him going to rehab. I was so hoping he would go before I went away. Maybe he still will.

The phone hook up is a great idea. That way people can keep in touch with him when they can't physically make it up to see him! I'm sure that will help to keep his spirits up.

now that he is talking better it's good. Hus voice sounds different but he did have a trach tube in and he did pull on it making his voice sound different. I'm sure it will get better. Dad heard him on the phone and he said it didn't sound like him. That's also the speech therapy that he needs.
Therapists..please weigh in..

I'm not a theraphist but DH also had a trach and it took him a long time to sound like himself. . His speech was slurred more than anything else. But his speech therapist encouraged everyone to get him to talk to them. They actually put a sign above is bed that said "please encourage Gary to talk".

Glad to know that happens. The nurses and all the other staff engage him. I'm making it a point to tell them to talk to him all the time. It also helps him pass the time. The more he talks the more he thinks and I can only hope that helps him get re-acclimated in his head.
The cardiologist laughed when I told him that Fred flirted with the nurses.
