Has anyone ever worked as a teacher/proctor for Princeton Review?
I saw it online on monster.com and think it would be something I am interested in doing since the classes are mostly at night and on the weekend this way I can be home during the day with my son.
Any feedback would be great. Here is the link if anyone else is interested.

I also work for Kaplan and have tutored the SAT since 2001. The flexibility is great. Right now I work FT coordinating tutoring programs and hiring and managing tutors is a huge part of my job.
I interviewed for FT at both TPR and Kaplan and you can FM me if you want my thoughts on both companies (I think Kaplan is better). Rebecca and I can put you in touch with the right people at Kaplan to get you into either tutoring or teaching.
I am hiring right now specifically for Westchester, Rockland and CT, but I know Long Island is also looking to hire a lot of new tutors.
Good Luck and please FM me with questions!

Re: Has anyone ever worked as a teacher/proctor for Princeton Review?
I worked for Kaplan teaching the SAT classes years ago. I started in college and did it even when I started working full time in a regular corporate job. Actually I stopped in 2001 so Jennifer we just missed each other.
I liked it a lot. You can't beat the flexibility. The only thing I didn't like was that it wasn't frequent enough for my needs but I dealt with that because I enjoyed the work.
I was actually thinking about getting back into it since I am quitting my job to student teach in the fall. I saw that post on Monster too and I might apply there.
Jennifer, is Linda T. still one of the big managers at Garden City? You can PM me if you prefer.

Has anyone done the proctoring? I felt like I made more money doing private SAT tutoring, which was off the books, but proctoring sounds easy..

Hey JennP, yes, Linda is still the Center Manager at Garden City. I have been working there since 2001, probably crossed paths with you.
If you decide to come back, you don't have to go through the whole process again. I will FM you the contact to call.

Proctoring alone only pays $10/hr. The nice thing about tutoring for a company is you don't have to make up your own lessons and you don't have to find your own students.

Oh it said $12 on monster. What do proctors do? Just stand around while the test is being done, and read instructions?

If you are a teacher and can grade essays for SAT while proctoring, you get $12 (you have to pass essay grader training), otherwise it pays $10/hours Yep, you got it, you time the students. For SAT, it does involve montoring the behavior of the students. In the fall and spring, we are always looking for a lot of proctors, and we also use site coordinators (basically behavior monitors for schools where we have more than 3 classes running at a time). If you are interested in either proctoring or site coordinating, FM me and I will give you a contact number.

Do you need a teaching degree to be a proctor?

You don't need a teaching degree for proctoring or for teaching/tutoring.
Rebecca can speak more to the teaching side, but for tutoring we require a certain score cutoff, some form of teaching or tuoring or leadership experience and aptitude and for peoople who are still in college, good grades.
I love Linda T! I worked with her when I worked out in the Garden City center (with Rebecca). However, I was never a teacher, always a tutor, and often a proctor in the center.
For tutors we pay $12 an hour for proctoring, but that is in the home, not in the center.
I just spent the afternoon doing phone interviews. Also, depending on your region and expertise I don't think too little work is going to be a problem. In my region, I more often have tutors who call me up to say "I have too many students!" If you want the work, it will definitely be there for you. For tutors and teachers, now is a really good time to get started and get the training process going.
AND you get to work with really fun, cool people like me and Rebecca!

Proctoring is very easy. You hand out tests, time the exam and basically make sure all of the grids are handled properly. It's not difficult and it's pretty relaxing. I've always loved proctoring.
For proctoring in a tutoring situation we do ask that you take note of student behaviors such as if they just gace u[ in the middle of a section, if they finished early, etc etc.
