what trees/pretty flowers do you have?
My husband i just built a house and we're getting top soil delivered saturday. So we've begun thinking about landscaping and i was curious (since i'm new at this and have no idea)...
what sorts of trees or pretty flowers would you recommend?
I know i love tulips and i really want a cherry blossom tree (no idea how much they are).
Thanks girls!

Re: what trees/pretty flowers do you have?
We inherited a pretty mature yard with the house we purchased - unfortunately not all of it is our taste (most specifically the very 50s front yard). In the front we have azaelas, rhododendrums and some other tremendous bush with these really pretty hanging bell-type flowers. Along the driveway we have daffodils (which I love)...and about 6 climbing roses along the front of the property with one forsythia bush at the corner.
On one side of the house are hydrangeas and the other side we have a few peony plants - love both sides.
The back is my favorite - it is lined in 15'-25' hemlocks...we also have about 6 huge lilac bushes, a lady apple tree (which has the most beautiful sweet smelling blossoms right now) and about 8 rose bushes. In one corner we have a forsythia.
The woman who owned the house prior to us was very methodical with her plantings - everything is even and symetrical...I prefer a more free-flowing yard.

My neighbor has a few dogwoods and quite a few Japanese maples - they are gorgeous (especially in the fall).
I love honeysuckle - I'd like to replace the backyard forsythia with that.

Re: what trees/pretty flowers do you have?
we have a dogwood in our back yard. We have two dwarf ornamental fruit trees in front. We also have some great flowering shrubs like forsythia & verbenia. We have one scoth broom that looks like its dying. We have Bamboo. I love ornamental grasses & I'm always adding more. We have a few hydrangeas & butterfly bushes. I have a shade garden under my dogwood with hostas & ferns & flowers that like shade. DH just ripped out all of our front bushes last weekend because he hated them. He replanted a few elsewhere & gave the rest away on freecycle. Do you have deer in your neighborhood? If so you need to find deer resistant plants. I can't tell you how many people in my neighborhood have spent $$$ on plants only for them to be destroyed by deer in one summer.

Re: what trees/pretty flowers do you have?
We have a weeping cherry tree in the front along with some euonymous (sp?) bushes and some evergreens.
In the back we have forsythia along the fence and we planted a pear tree.
For flowers we have daffodils and then I plant annuals in the front beds, along with mums and montauk daisys that come up each year. In the back, we have irises, mums and I just planted lavender and will plant some annuals in those beds also.

You may not be able to find it because many states have banned it's sale. Japanese honeysuckle is a horribly invasive plant.
Currently we have:
Asiatic lilies Daylilies Tulips Lilac
I won't be gardening much this year but hopefully next season I'll have my own yard to plan!

Re: what trees/pretty flowers do you have?
Spring bloomers include: Daffodils Viburnum Hyacinth Azalea Rhododendren Dogwood would love to have tulips too but the squirrels snap of the blooms right before they open. I also plan to put in some trillium, lily of the valley and ferns in a shady area.
Summer blooms include: Hosta Hydrangea (love these because they bloom all summer) Roses (want to add more) Tiger Lily Lilac Butterfly Bush Various annuals I add for color and a few other perennials that I can't recall the name.
