no for me I am not because he is gay - it's because he is a liar, a cheat and has proven that he lacks some of the major moral beliefs that Christianity teaches, it is a joke.
And to play devils advocate, unfortunatly so are most priests, now a days. Its not like it was when my grandma was growng up.

I know what you are saying Deb...just because he is gay and he lied, doesn't mean we should automatically assume that he cannot have his own beliefs and a relationship with God. However, I would still like to drive past his house and check it out (his mansion )

I can see what you are saying, but he wrote in his book how he married his 2nd wife only for political gain and has not once in public applogized for that. Nor has he ever seemed contrite when discussing how while his 2nd wife was in the hospital recovering from a c-section he brought a man home and had sex with him in thier bed. I just don't see how he's a good candidate for the clergy. Perhaps he has repented, but having made his sins so public, I feel like he should be making his apology in the public forum as well. JMO.

In addition, to the whole gay controversy, he was probably the most corrupt governor in NJ's history (which is saying a lot since NJ gov't is pretty corrupt to begin with.) He wasted taxpayer $$ and routiney gave sweetheart deals to his friend's companies. He put his gay lover, a poet with no security credentials, in charge of homeland security of NJ. As someone who lost friends on 9/11, that is incredibly offensive to me. BTW, while his wife was recovering in the hospital after an emergency C-section, he had his lover over in their bed!!
Also, he has been a complete slimeball with regard to the divorce/custody proceedings against his wife. After totally humiliating his wife in a book, he sought full custody of their daughter.
He really is a total creep....
How's this for irony too??? He is now a professor of ethics at Kean College.

this is how i feel too.
plus, it's also been mentioned many times how he has wanted to join the clergy since he was a young boy. if that were the case, then why is it that he felt more compelled to pursue a career in politics instead? part of which was achieved, as mentioned above, by entering a marriage for political gain.
on the flipside, let's say he had pursued his dream and entered the clergy years ago, (as a married man), and then committed adultery with another man, and came out of the closet. wouldn't the powers that be ask him to resign?? (or would he be required to resign)

I'm sorry but someone who has SEX in his own HOME in his own BED while his WIFE is in the HOSPITAL having just gone through a very difficult CSECTION delivering HIS CHILD is SICK.
Repented?????? PLEASE - this man cares about NO ONE but himself - not only did he write about this incident in his book - and NOT in an apologetic way BUT he re-read it out loud on Oprah - I don't remember the exact words but the spin he put on it was POOR ME this was my ONE moment of happiness. IS THIS HOW YOU REPENT???? WHAT ABOUT THAT CHILD THAT WAS THE ONE JUSTT DELIVERED???? The child has to hear over and over again what their father was doing while their mother was going through a difficult birth.
From all his apologies it comes down to one thing - This man is seriously sick and devoid of any sort of real remorse for anyone but himself - he is sorry for not coming out sooner. Gay or straight - this man should NOT be a priest and I doubt he will be.
Watching him on Oprah was seriously one of the most eye -opening moments for me. I could never imagine anyone could ever be so sick to do what he did and then to humiliate his family and child even further.... It is beyond my comprehension.

From what I heard, he wants to be an Episcopalian priest, so he wouldn't necessarily be asked to resign for being gay or having a relationship with another man.
My thought on this is that the guy's political career is over and I think it is doubtful that he is going to get the sweethart deals for speaking engagements that other politicians who leave office get. I think the desire to become a priest is driven by his desire to stay in the public eye and to continue to have some amount of fame and recognition. Maybe I am cynical, but I am not sure this is driven by a desire to serve God, but rather by a need to continue to feed his huge ego.
