A cookie on my desk

So I just returned from lunch, and there is a cookie on my desk in my office.

Not a cookie on a plate, or a napkin; just straight on my desk. If it was an all chocolate cookie I would have thought maybe someone decided to just let loose on my desk.

But I find this weird - am I being bribed for something? Are they trying to kill me? Chat Icon

And then, I start thinking, "oh, someone just left me a cookie" But would anyone eat a cookie that came from unknown origins that HAD to have had some mystery person's hands on it?

Since you're in IT, I would say it's either a bribe or a poisoned one.

After what I've seen on TV about what co-workers do to coffee, I would toss it.Chat Icon

Hmm.. I need to send a company wide email telling people that cookie bribes are nice, but sealed bottles of alcohol work better. Chat Icon

Re: A cookie on my desk

I'd ask who it came from first, assess their cleanliness, and then decide whether or not to eat it!!...and it would have to be from someone really dirty for me not to eat it...assuming it looked delicious and all.

Yeah, I don't touch gift food unless it's labeled.

Give a piece of it to someone you work with and watch to see if they croak.Chat Icon
If they don't then it's safe.Chat Icon

Actually I would just eat it. Did you do something especially nice for someone today?

Same here, its a free cookie - I wouldn't waste it. But I'd still do a little investigating first.

I don't think I did anything... I'm my normal biotch that I am everyday! Chat Icon

I asked my boss if he left it, and he said no and I should xray it before I eat it.

I've done that. I'm the one that always bakes and I like to make sure everyone gets a taste so I've left cookies on the desks of people I like.

Maybe it was me!

My Mom always told me to break my Halloween candy in two pieces to see if there were any needles stuck inside-- try that!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously though, that is rather creepy!

I would take a pen and push the cookies off the edge of the desk into a garbage can! Chat Icon

Yeah, but what makes it weird(er) is that these weren't homebaked - someone catered lunch in for a meeting, and there was extras. So they put the left over food and cookies in an empty cubicle, but then I guess a mystery person decided I really needed one. Chat Icon
