side business??

how many of you have one?
what do you do in said business?
how do you find clients?
how's it going for you?
how did you get started?

a few days ago, i read an article about small businesses. according to the article (sorry, i don't remember where i read it) 3/5 households have someone who is working on a side business. i also read that 8/10 small businesses fail.

I have a personal career consulting business on the side - since I work as a career counselor full time, I figured I could earn some extra cash writing resumes and cover letters and helping people plan their careers by providing career interest inventories and personality assessments (as they relate to career issues).

I have started mostly by referrals of friends and family and haven't really put much effort into advertising yet because of other obligations. Right now its just a nice way to make some extra cash and build up a referal base.

i don't, but DH does... hes an engineer and knows computer drafting, so he does some of that on the side for someone.... $35 an hour and he can sit in front of the TV while hes diong it..not bad!

DH has a software development business on the side of his regular developement job, he get work thru word of mouth. Its great because he does it whenever he can, and loves it. He also is doing consulting work for a major LI company, on the side also. He talked to our Acct to get started with all the proper forms and papers he needed to set up.
