Copiague
I see some affordable homes in the Copiague area. Being that we both grew up in the city, could anyone offer me some good info on this area? We would like to move to Suffolk, but do not want to have to move as far as areas like Centereach, Selden, Coram to be affordable.
How is the Copiague neighborhood? Schools?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Copiague
Copiague isn't of the same league as say a Massapequa- but it does have some very nice areas. It's a traditional blue-color/mixed town. I wouldn't hesitate to live there.
My step sister went through the Copiague system and she does quite well for herself now.

Re: Copiague
Some parts of Copaigue are ok. How about Islandia. It is the CI school system but we live there, the houses are affordable. It is a nice neighborhood with good size properties. The way we looked at it was we could live there for 7 years before we had to worry about schools. Hopefully, we would be able to afford to move or pay for private school by then. There are some 2 families too so you could make some xtra money for your mortgage through that.

Re: Copiague
I have a friend who lives in Copaigue Harbor (yes you must say harbor..lol). She loves her neighborhood, close to the water, but plans to send her son to catholic school in Massapequa -- she says the schools in Copaigue are not that great.
This is not my opinion, I know nothing about it, just what my friend has told me.
Good luck!!

Re: Copiague
DH grew up in Copiague and graduated from there....So did my 5 half sisters
There are some areas of Copiague which are GREAT and very expensive( like the harbor where the median house is at least $600K) , but there are some not so great ( IMO) areas as well. Theres a very heavy Polish community in Copiague...I'd say half the community even...some friends of ours are Polish and go all the way to our Church in Copiague and for the Polish stores....Theres a predominantly spanish area as well...These areas arent bad as in crime, so much ,as not pleasant to look at, the area around Great NEck Road has a lot of stores , laundromats, the train station and Gas stations etc, it gets busy , and is loud at night ,....
I Would say its not exactly my favorite spot, but If I saw an affordable house there, I would look for sure...

Re: Copiague
I grew up in Copiague. Its not that bad, but on the other hand it isnt that great. There are nice areas not even in the harbor, but by Hawkins BLVD. The school though isnt the best. But I dont think it is the worst either. I graduated in 94 and things have changed since then.

Re: Copiague
I grew up in Copiague. If you stick to the harbor or Hawkins "Estates" (streets off Hawkins Blvd) as it is now called, you're in a good area and even close to the two elementary schools. As Donna said, there is a large Polish and Hispanic community.
Copiague school system --not as bad as some but still not good. My parents sent me to Catholic School for this reason. On the other hand, my cousin (who lives off Hawkins) went to Copiague schools all her life and is now a Dr.
