testing for causes
My d and c is over, and while it was less physically painful than I expected, I am still overwhelmed emotionally.
I will be seeing my OB in 2 weeks to follow up. He said 6-8 weeks before cycling again.
For those of you that have had this unfortunate mess happen to you, did you and DH have any testing done to try to determine what could have caused this? They are testing the embryo but that is going to take a long time, the doctor said. I guess Im seaching for the answer as to why this happened and if it will happen again. I know taht it could, in fact, have just been the wrong time, or something not right with the embryo.. I dont know.... did anyone go through testing and reach any sort of decisive answers? Or is the answer simply to try again and pray?

Re: testing for causes
The testing on the embryo will be very telling. They were able to tell us the sex, and exactly what went wrong. In my case, during development, a 3rd chromosome #16 was created, which is "incompatible with life". It is the most common developmental disorder (I think 100,000 m/c a year are caused by this).
Honestly, I didn't start to feel better until we heard this. In a weird way, you take great comfort out of knowing that your body handled the situation correctly.
Since it is so common, my doctor did not recommend testing for either of us - just to wait 1-2 cycles (he preferred 2) and try again. After 1 cycle I was not emotionally ready to try again, so we waited 1 more.
Hope that helps.

Re: testing for causes
I was too early to have testing done on the embro but after the 2nd miscarriage my RE did order alot of blood work for genetic testing, etc...
Luckily everything came back normal, we are just taking some time off before we start cycling again.

Re: testing for causes
Yes, my OB suggested it to see if it was chromosomal, but it came back fine,so all I kept thinking what did "I"do that could have caused this, was it that extra package I lifted, or did I push myself to far.....well, you cant beat youself up wondering what if, I went down that road and it tore me apart, but I did get releief to dind out it wasnt chromosomal. I just prayed that my next cycle was going to work, and it did...I have 2 BEAUTIFL boys who are the highlight of my life I guess God blessed me with tiwns for the one I lost, well that si what someone very special told me.
Im praying for you....mourn, cry,. let it out. It is ok. I cried for weeks. I still cry thinking about it. If you need to talk, Im here

Re: testing for causes
I've gone for lots of testing and gotten opinions from several doctors. Apparently, even is the genetic tesing comes out fine there is still a chance that the baby had a chromosomal abnormality if the gender was girl. Sometimes they accidently get and test the mother's chromosomes so the test comes back normal. If, however, the baby was a boy then obviously that was the baby's dna.
I was tested after my 1st miscarriage and then tested more extensively after my second miscarriage. My doctor found a problem that we treated but nothing was decisive. Noone was absolutely sure why I miscarried or experienced infertility, even after all that. It has been a year since my first preg that ended in a miscarriage, and I am presently 22 weeks preggo so I keep my fingers crossed.
I know this must be a terrible time for you, but it will get better. Try to stay positive and Good luck.
