im so MAD.
i need to get a breast mri done. i called to make the appt and they tell me i need an authorization number first. so i call to get an authorization number and they told me i need an appt first. neither side is budging, what do i do?? i need this test. i cant sit on the phone for an hour going back and forth. this is nuts. not to mention im trying to do this with an exterminator at my house, two kids running around and a barking dog.

Tell the authorization-giver that you already have an appt. I've done it many times before. 
Make up a day....next Tuesday sounds good!

Why are you getting the autho #? Your PCP or the doc referring you should be contacting your insurance.

Be careful with that. The insurance company may deny the claim since the authorization could be for a particular day.
I have been working with our ins. company to help someone here get paid for a CT scan that was done 2 days before the authorized one. The claim was denied because of the different date even though it was her doctor that changed the date due to an emergency situation. It's bs but 2 months later she's still being hounded for $750.00

Oh, that's good to know. Thanks.
I feel so bad for my co-worker since she thought it wouldnt make a difference and her doctor's office said it was ok and it isn't.

Usually they give a date range. When our office gets referrals they usually give a range of 30-60 days for when you can have the procedure done.

i cant even lie. the woman wants to know the exact date of my appt. and since its an mri, its only done on certain days. so i cant make up a date, im not sure if i can get the appt within the 30 day time frame. and i cant get an actual authrization number without an appt date. this is ridiculous.
