This is probably wrong of me to do....

but JT and I have always had the deal that I'll do all the cooking, if he does all the clean-up afterwards. Well, it turns out he works nights all week now, so I cook dinner and clean the dinner table, which is usually just my plate now, but I still leave all of the pots and pans for him to clean the next day. That's so wrong, isn't it?Chat Icon

I know I should, but seriously, by the time I get the baby cleaned up and ready for bed, I make my own dinner, then I finally eat, I just feel like the last thing I want to do is clean the dishes. It's like this stupid leftover defiance I have from childhood, since it was always the dreaded chore in my houseChat Icon My sister and I used to RACE to the diningroom to set the table and get dinner ready because the other person had to clean upChat Icon

Do you leave him food? If you make enough for you both, then I think it's fine to leave him with the dishes. If you're just cooking for yourself, then you should either 1) probably clean up after yourself, or 2) make extra so you can claim you cooked for him too. Chat Icon

Re: This is probably wrong of me to do....

Hmmm, it depends on how many pots and pans and how big of a dinner and how good it was Chat Icon

Honestly, if its a huge amount of stuff to clean every single day, Id say that can get to be a pain for either of you, (you both work) and im a HUGE advocate of hubby chipping in.

But I think maybe just try to minimize how many things you use with cooking (Ive mastered using the fewest pots and dirtying the kitchen minimally when I cook (to avoid the potential disaster of cleanup time Chat Icon)...

and maybe alternate who cleans up?

When I cook, I have tupperware ready to be filled (if I cook a lot), and I usually clean the pots before he even gets home. Its a eat/clean drill thats quick and done many times. I also DREAD the long drawn out cleanups that I grew up with, so Ive mastered avoiding them and making cooking/cleanup as time-efficient as possible..

in all that babble, did I get to the point?

I'd feel bad doing that to my DH... But it's awesome that you cook every night! You cook four more days a week than I do!!! Chat Icon

I cook. DH cleans. His work day is longer than mine and he gets home 2 and a half hours after I do. If he starts cleaning on his own, so be it. If not, I just do it, but the gross things like broiler pans and hard to clean stuff, he does.
