Socially Awkward

Do you work with anyone like this? There is a young girl in my office, 23 or 24 and its like she was never around people before. She will laugh, nervous tee hee hee, laughter when she doesn't know what to say.

I mean she is nice, but I don't know how to talk to her.

Anyone else?

I used to work with a girl who I think was never around people.

Example: we were pulled into a meeting to be told a new person was starting at the company. She yells "oh i can't wait to go to my desk and google him!". Very awkward silence.

She was also in love with her boss who was married with 2 kids. She told almost everyone, it caused so much awkard embarrasing silences. And no, her boss did not love her...he had no clue..she told everyone but him.

She also spit very badly when she spoke...seriously you had to wipe your face. AND everythign she ate ended up in her hair. Swear to god. She brought tuna and egg salad in all the time and it would hang from her hair. Poor girl.

yes...my new assistant editor. painfully quiet and speaks to no one but me. BUT--he does a great job and is nice enough.

My 21 year old step daughter is this way. Extremely shy - very little self esteem. It is very hard for her to speak to other people, though she gets better every day, especially when other people take the initiative to talk to her.

OMG yes. Its amazing how many socially awkward and/or inept people there are! This girl in my office, I've posted about her before, she has no concept of social skills - she's opposite of the one you're describing though - she's not shy, just can't handle group situations and has to corner people to talk to them and makes these weird noises and snorts. I feel awkward FOR her.

We had someone that wasn't socially awkward as much as she was not familiar working in business.

I think the topper was the day she found a website that created fake MetalHead names, wrote them all out & taped them over everyone's name on the cube/office.

She left perfectly normal but when she came in ....um...definitely strange.

YES!

The new kid who works the weekends with us is socially awkward!!

He is a very nice, sweet young man, he is 19 years old, so I think it just inexperiance partyly.

It's like he needs to be constantly engaged in conversation, even when I am busy! And he means well, because USUALLY he asking about job related things!!!

He also needs to continuously told he is doing a good job and he says sorry alot even if it wasn't somthing he did wrong

YES I do....this woman just looks old beyond her years and doesn't really talk to anyone

She is not a bad person but I just can't talk to her. She stares and stares and it makes me uncomfortable. HEr laught makes me nuts.
