What's a mother to do????
My son is going to be 16 years old..and he has himself a girlfriend who he spends almost EVERY minute on the phone with. I just received his cell phone bill...and I nearly .
I have a plan through a friend who works at Nextel and his bill should be $20.00 a month, that's with 1000 minutes and the bill just came for $334.00 and guess who's number is ALL over the bill? YEP..the girlfriend.
I was once young and know how it is to want to talk to that person..but I noticed they are calling each other during school hours. So...being that I warned him about the bill coming high..I am now going to disconnect the phone. To think my DH and I were going to put him on our family plan..but now...forget about it!!! I highlighted the bill and put "Would you like to explain this??" and am going to tape it to his door.
He's of age and is going to have to get himself a job if he wants another phone..because I can't and will not pay a bill like this. Utterly ridiculous!!!

Ahhh the joy of teenagehood...I'm looking forward to this one!
Your son is a good kid though...cut him some slack and give him a little warning...

That's the thing we have T-Mobile..but I kept him on with Nextel because most of his friends have it. We were going to put him on our plan..but if this is any sign of what we can expect with our bill (since we'd be sharing minutes)...forget it.

What about a pay as you go phone? Where he can only make calls and once he runs out of credit...thats it. He can't make any more calls.
I can't imagine my sweet little baby boy as a teenaged manboytypething!!!

The school hours needs to stop!!! I would make him pay if he is going to have a bill that high.

Yes that's what I'm thinking..but he's gonna need a job...to pay for the minutes. He goes to private school and I give him money for lunch and his DATES with this "girl", hair cuts etc. lol. That's it..the mommy fund is no longer in effect..for a while. To think his birthday is Sunday..and I was considering getting him Xbox because he wanted it...well now I'm not. Sorry!

I think you are right in doing what you are doing. He knows how many minutes he has. If he wants more, he needs to pay for it. And, no calls during school hours or no more phone, job or no job!

Maybe warn him and then at least take it away during school hours...

I have a Nextel also, but we just found out that for $5 a month, if you call any other nextel/sprint customer it is free...does the girlfriend have nextel or sprint???

I warned him..SEVERAL times. This is the 3rd one...and with me it's 3 strikes..you are out. Gotta put that tough love in effect because he CLEARLY took advantage. He went over by 1666 minutes!! What could you possibly say to each other 15 times a day???

I don't think she does..otherwise it wouldn't have been this high.
