I am wondering how the real estate market is there, cost of living, etc
home prices seem to be about the same
there are good parts and bad parts
property taxes are less- but the schools are not so hot

I agree You would def. want to go and check out the areas, because there are some very nice areas-but there are not so nice areas- I am a teacher-the school district is just okay-

Re: Does anyone live in Stamford, CT?
What price range are you looking? You won't find many houses under $450,000. The property sizes tend to be small, but the taxes are low. If you work in NYC, the commute is very manageable (about 45 minutes). The school district is not good, especially compared to most of the other districts in the county.
Most of the towns in Fairfield County are expensive b/c of their proximity to NYC and the quality of the school districts. Norwalk (about 15 minutes from Stamford) is on par with Stamford. I think the home prices are a little bit lower, but the taxes are higher. It has a less of a city feel. The school district is slightly better, but not great.
