Do you think it was better "back then"
when "The Jeffersons" said honky and "All In the Family" was also using similar terms? It just seems that we've worked hard to grow from there and become "pc" and yet people seem more racist and verbally abusive than ever........it's just sad to me. It just makes me wonder where we're all headed.....

I think it is def better than the PC cr@p we have to deal with now. Like the worst thing in the world is a thought or idea or word that might hurt someone's feelings..... it is misdirected IMO.

Sometimes I find it's all very fake. People are so PC, and then, in their own lives--they are nothing like that. Do as I say, not as I do. I just think, it's coming from a hateful place, whereas then, maybe it was more a fear of the unknown type of thing??

I agree I think most times it is very fake. And I think that it is worse that way. At least when it was OK to joke about it made it less imactful & less serious. Like you said, we say how ridiculous it was that Archie & George were ignorant. I rather doubt that most people watching it were rooting for them to kill each other, KWIM?
But by making it taboo it again makes it soooooooooo serious that people can get fired for making an off-hand (albeit stupid) comment/joke. It is horrible and it is a form of censorship.
Reminds me of "Brave New World" make it clean, make it pleasant & make it boring & thoughtless.
