I found a house

As some of you know, I have been wanting to buy a house for a while now. But my DH doesnt think the timing is right for us. Anyway, I keep reading mulitple listings and yesterday I came across a great house. Dh and I drove past and he even agrees that he would buy the house in a minute (if the time was right of course). Anyway...today there is an open house. Should I go? Or do you think I will be torturing myself???

Re: I found a house

Speaking from experience.....
DH and I have decided we'll be looking for a house to buy next fall. So we started looking this summer and we found a house that we LOVE. It would be perfect for us...but we're not ready to buy right now, so I torture myself by checking it our on MLSLI ever now and again Chat Icon .
BUT....I'm glad we went to the open house there, and I'm glad I know the house exists, because it lets me know that there are houses out there that I like and can afford....so I would say go to the open house - see if it's what you want!
Maybe it'll be terrible inside and you'll be able to write it off!
Or it'll be great....and you can have hope that you'll find a hosue one day!
But I would definitely say that if both of you are not ready to buy....you can't do it now.
good luck!Chat Icon

Re: I found a house

Definitely go and look. The more houses you see and the more you get to know the areas you are interested in better your chances that once you find a house you really like, your's will be the winning bid.

We had one couple who looked at our house and put in a bid $50K lower than asking price (their bid was $400,000... 2 bedroom houses that have original kitchen go for that in our are)Chat Icon Ummmmm.... everything in the house is new... kitchen, bath, deck, garage door, driveway, inside/outside painted, washer/dryer... mostly new within the year... some two years. Our house is small but only one house in E. Northport (in any condition) has sold for under $400,000 in the last year. That house is on a main road and was built in 1910. My friend is a real estate agent and he sent me all of the sales from mls (that the realtors see) in the past calendar year so I knew. Needless to say we didn't accept the bid. Had we been going through a real estate agent that couple never would have known what went wrong. They called us two days later and we explained that we couldn't even entertain that figure as the house has had improvements of at least $75,000 done in the past year and all of the expensive (once every thirty years) items (kitchen, bath, roof and heating unit) were all done. Despite the house being small at $455K for this area (that's important to) with alll of the improvements it is still a bargain. I new she really loved the house (she has a lot of family here as well) and told them we already had two other bids in that were very close or at our asking price but since my husband was away on business until Friday we would not make a decision until then. She just wasn't looking long enough to know how fast houses in this condition go and how good of a deal this was. Again, a realtor never would have told her that, she just would have lost the house. An hour later I received a fax bid from them for over our asking price and we are selling to them. We did not go with the other bids due to other factors (one had a house to sell and the other lived in NJ) and we wanted someone who was currently renting and can close quickly.

Sorry so long but I just wanted to give you some insight that it can only help to look at as many houses as possible before you are ready to buy.

Just go and look. Don't fall in love and keep your poker face on.

Good luck

Re: I found a house

Definitely go and look you may not like the inside at all and you'll feel better!!

I've seen so many houses Ive said, "I would do anything to live in a house like that" Went to an OH and hated the layouts.

Re: I found a house

Well I have to let the dream go about my dream house. I am sad, but I am hoping when we are both ready that something as great will come along. Thanks for listening everyone.

Re: I found a house

I think you should go to as many open houses as you want. Not only do you get to see the houses out there you get decorating ideas and you get to meet real estate agents and one might just be one that you click with.
