JESSICA'S RING ENVY
Talk about the carat and the shtick...but JOHN MAYER not only wasn't biting at JESSICA SIMPSON's come-on, he actually got that "Help, I'm being strangled" look you see on guys when gals start hinting at the "M"-word. Out dining with Sweetie and another couple, John's reaction was downright hilarious when Jessica spotted her galpal's whopping 4-carat diamond ring, gasped: "Oh, my God, that is SO beautiful!" - and immediately tried it on. Cuddling up to her man and waving the rock under his nose, Jessica gushed (hint, hint!): "Isn't this the perfect size for my hand, honey?" John turned sheet-white, stammered uh-huh, quickly suggested she give the sparkler back to her pal - and changed the subject PRONTO!
