Anyone ever make a contingency offer?

We just put our house on the market last week and haven't had any offers yet. In the meantime we've seen a few houses that we would think about making an offer on, but the only way we would do it is if there was a contingency in the contract that we need to sell our house first. The way our REA explained it is that they would continue showing the house and if they got any other offers we would have the right of first refusal. I feel like I'm wasting my time looking at houses until we have an offer on ours. What would you do? Look at houses now and make a contingency offer or wait?
