to wash the babies clothes before they wear them?

I dont wash my new clothes first except for undies and jeans so I dont think its necessary.

Well, I know newborns skin is much more sensitive than ours so I would probably wash most of the clothes, at least on a gentle cycle.
Plus, you never know where the clothes have been

My doctor recommends it for the first couple of months.
Like the above poster said - their skin is much more sensitive then ours and you don't know how many people held those clothes in their hands, etc.

I agree. I washed all of DD's clothes before she wore them. There skin is much more sensitive than an adults. I would use Dreft or Baby All.

these things sit in boxes and warehouses for who knows how long before they are manhandled and placed on shelves/packaging and then ruffled through by shoppers. based on that alone, you gotta wash them.

I hate to gross you all out ladies, but I learned when I sold Tupperware that a roach can live one month off of the glue of a stamp. Similar glue is used to hold many corrugated boxes together. If the clothing had ever been stored where a bug MIGHT be able to get at the box and lay its eggs, I would be very inclined to wash it.

I actually just washed a load of clothes for the baby because I'm so bored. And I wasnted to use some of that Dreft detergent I got at my shower.

Oh yes! Long story short, I knew a family that had trouble getting rid of those HUGE roaches that you see in FL b/c of using boxes and paper bags to move. My mom had to explain it to me so I wouldn't think that family was "nasty" anymore.

Working in Retail, just a bit of advice WASH everything.
It is not only the store that could have a problem, but most of the clothes are made in factorys in very low income countrys. Their sanitary standards are probally not in line with ours.
Who knows who touched it in the store, if the register was clean that it was sitting on.
Just wash the stuff.

No but I did in the beginning because I didn't know how sensitive my DD's skin would be. Now I definitely don't. I also didn't wash everything in case I needed to return stuff.

I did wash all her things beforehand in baby detergent until the bottle was all used up.....
then I switched to Free & Clear detergent (we use purex, but many brands make it).
I still wash new stuff first before she wears it

not sure if it is neccessary but I did it for the first 4 or 5 mths - then I stopped and just put them on her right after the tags werre cut off. she was fine...

I never washed either of my sons new clothes before they wore them. Just cut off the tags and got 'em dressed! They are both fine.
