Pedicures - really?
So today at lunch someone told me that pregnant women can't have pedicures. When I asked why, she said because of the nerve endings in your feet you could bring on labor. I am supposed to get one on Friday. Do I really need to be concerned?

There is a school of thought that the reflexology could bring on labor. I'd ask your Dr & also tell the tech not to do any deep tissue or heavy massage on your legs & feet.

Uh pullease...I get them every week and every pregnant woman I know used to get them too. No worries, you can get it done without a problem. If you're really concerned, ask your doctor.

Re: Pedicures - really?
There are 2 spots in your feet and one in your ankle area that can bring on labor. You have to really apply deep pressure to them and know what you are doing to make that happen. Enjoy your pedicures and don't sweat it. A real reflexologist will tell you that they won't do accupressure because of this but a pedicure is pretty harmless.

Re: Pedicures - really?
I have read about certain points in the feet and lower legs being used to help bring on labor, but they are very specific pressure points. The type of rubbing that they do when getting a pedi (at least where I went last week) isn't specificor hard enough to cause anything to happen.

Re: Pedicures - really?
I have been getting them every other week for this entire pregnancy. They are my savior and I have NOT gone into labor!!! I think you can enjoy your pedicures and manicures. Ppl are getting ludicrious with the do's and don'ts of pregnancy!
BTW, I should add that I add on a 30 minute foot massage everytime. Right now, it's the only thing that relieves the pain.

I too have heard about this. I just let my girl know that I was preggo so no hard massage. Instead she does a great paraffin treatment!
