where to put the nursery

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions/experience on this . . .

sorry its so long

My home only has 1 bathroom. It has 2 BRs upstairs and 1 BR and a dining room downstairs near the bathroom.

We have been sleeping downstairs in the BR near the bathroom for most of my pregnancy -- basically b/c I need to be close to the bathroom at night.

But when the baby arrives I really wanted to move upstairs -- one room for DH and me and the other for the nursery (I know the baby will be with us for the first few months, but I want to set up the nursery for it and not have to worry about moving furniture around after the birth, when DH and my work schedules will also be hectic).

My mom keeps telling me that we should keep our room downstairs near the bathroom for at least the first few months. And she suggested turning my dining room into a nursery for the first 6 months or so. She says going upstairs every time I have to put the baby to sleep or change it will be a real hassle. Plus she says we'll need to have a bathroom nearby.

I thought I could just have a pack 'n play downstairs for the daily changing/napping. Plus we really wanted to set up our downstairs BR as a guest room/study, which is really important to us

I would put the furn upstairs and create a perm nursery. You can always keep the baby in a PNP in your room for the 1st couple months then transition to the crib if you want too.

Honestly with a newborn, being near or far from the bathroom wasn't so much an issue as it was during pg.

I have a bi level house and when i am downstairs, the baby got changed on the pnp changing area.

I wouldn't go nuts and have to do things twice.

go for the nursery upstairs...but leave a pack n play downstairs for during the day. We have a split and that's what we did while she was itty bitty....SO much easier.

She did still nap/sleep upstairs since we have dogs and they made too much noise for her to sleep in the Pack n play in the LR. She did sleep in the swing alot in our kitchen during the day.
