baptism....what would you do?

okay she's due to be born (c-section) week of april 16

the deacon we went to bap[tize her is the same guy who married us.. due to family vacations and such... it has to be Sunday June 3rd.

I always wanted a brunch.... i didnt want to have a party the same day of the christening... i always hated the thought of making people stay out on a sunday afternoon when they have work the next day...

so should we have the Party following sunday am for a brunch at our house or rent a hall and have it catered right after the church....

it would be about 75 people. i;m thinking if we have it our house and get a tent, tab;les and chairs... it may wind up being the same amount of money just to rent a hall.... and then still pay for drinks, food etc ect

my mom would never say anything, dh thinks it;s rude to ask 2 sundays of people- but i wouldnt invite everyone to church just the immediate family.... and MIL thinks people will still come to the church anyway and then are we going to say everyone after... okayu goodbye... we're going to dinner now....without you...and also then we'd have to take the immediate family out for dinner afterwards.... so that would be more $$$ ughhh i dont know what to do.. after typing this.. i'm thinking just renting a vfw hall.....and get it over with in 1 day

what are your guys thoughts....

Re: baptism....what would you do?

i would do it all in one day...ppl probably expect some kind of get together afterwards so just do it then and have a great time with everyone while your baby is in the cute little outfit and take tons of pictures!
Im pretty positive they will allot the time that sunday and not expect to have to make time two sundays in a row.
so all in one day IMO

I've never gone to a christening and then to a party for it the following week. Honestly, I'd be a little pizzed that it screwed up 2 Sundays for me. If people are invited to a christening they expect that it will take up a portion of their day. JMO

Honestly I would do it all in one day. Do the brunch as a restaurant and everyone will be home by 4-4:30.

I would do it all in one day. Is Saturday a possibility? Thats when we are having ours done (its a private christening though).

Re: baptism....what would you do?

I too have been contemplating doing on 2 different dates. My brother did with my nephew, only b.c our parents live out of town and were not able to attend the actual baptism, but were able to come to the party.

Question--what time is the baptism going to be?? Our church only does baptism at 2pm so our only option is something in the afternoon.

I also feel bad about making it an "all day" ordeal for people. Especially that it will be in Queens and there are a number of people coming from Long Island.

ETA:
I agree that if you did decide to do it on two days, just invite immediate family to the church. Then on the 2nd day, for the party-invite everyone else.

Re: baptism....what would you do?

i think we're just going to go to a hall afterwards..... and have me, my mom, my MIL, some aunts cook for us... they already offered... maybe do some catered appetizers and such........

it's not really what i wanted.... but it;s best thing for everyone else....... only one day.... which will most likely be better for my little girl anwyay..

Good choice. All in one day is much better (for everyone.)

I would do it all the same day. Seems kinda weird to me otherwise.
