Anyone reface their cabinets?
My girlfriend is debating on whether to reface her cabinets or just get new ones. Her cousin told her that she got her cabinets refaced and spent $20,000!!!! I thought that was a little ridiculous? No?
She said she got them refaced by Sears. I seriously think that was an outrageous amount of money for refacing. I though the whole reason people reface is to not have to spend so much $$ on new ones.
Am I mistaken? I told her I would run it by good ol' LIF and see what answers I get. She wanted to know if you DID in fact get refacing done, or know someone who did, what approximately did it cost.
TIA!!

Re: Anyone reface their cabinets?
I have a good friend that decided to reface and with the granite, spent about $19,000. But she a very large kitchen, with an island. She also priced new cabinets and for a good qualtity cabinet was looking at $35,000 and up (including the island). Her kitchen is beautiful. But I think the key here is that you have to have really good, structurally sound, cabinets to begin with. She did and they were custom and about 12 years old.
I think your friend should price it both ways and than decide.

Re: Anyone reface their cabinets?
We were looking into refacing our cabinets in our new home to save some $$ and not have to totally redo our kitchen right away.
We decided that we're going to paint our cabinets instead, it's a lot more affordable and will give our kitchen a nicer look for now.
