Desk?
Does anyone have anything like this? I am looking for something nice to put in my formal living room. I want it to appear not desk like. We have a regular computer desk in the basement but I want some thing to keep the laptop and a few little things in upstairs.

Re: Desk?
I don't have anything like it, but i like that one. It doesn't look like a desk at all.

I really like that but if you plan on putting it on that blank wall opposit of your hutch I would make sure you have enough room all the way around to pull the chairs out. I think it would look beautiful other wise.

Re: Desk?
I think that is usually just called a secretary. ( that website calls it a "secretary desk")
My Ils have one & I had nevr heard of it before, untill DH asked where his passport was!
They have a fairly formal living room & it looks great. They don't ever keep the desk flap part open thoguh. They have books in the top part.
Actually, they recently moved it to the dining room (also formal) b/c they inherted matching bookcases for the LR.

It's not going in the dining room, I was thinking of doing something like this in the living room. I'm having second thoughts now though, I'm so confused!

Re: Desk?
i LOVE secretary desks but you can easily find one of better quality. check out antique stores as they often have mutiple styles and sizes. i bought one at an antique store a few month ago (similar in style to the JCP one) for around $350.
check out craigslist as well. here is one for $75, no pic though. here is another lisitng , $150.
