is zillow for real

how accurate is zillow.com i'm finding their zestimates a little off..any advice. if the house is estimated low on zillow does that mean we are going to pay too much?????

zillow uses tax assessed values.

my house is assessed at almost $100K more than we paid - (which we are grieving of course!)

so zillow shows my zestimate on my house about $100K more than we paid.

I wouldnt pay attention to them - zillow is good for comps though - see what the houses actually sold for in the area.

It is completely inaccurate regarding my home.

ETA: It doesn't even have the proper info regarding the sale to us.

My has the proper information but as for the houses around us it isn't correct.

It was inaccurate when I looked it up too.

inaccurate for me -- it's listed value is more than $100K less than what it was appraised for before we purchased it. The lot is off by about half and it lists only one bathroom (we've got two.)

It was accurate for me - the exact price we paid for it. freaked me out a bit.
our nieghbors must hate that it's accurate because they're selling, and we got a GREAT deal!
