Can I color my hair?
I know the jury is kind of out on this... I did color with my first pg after trimester 1, but is it a good idea?

Re: Can I color my hair?
I have done it twice through the PG...my doc suggested waiting until after the first tri and using semi permanant color.

Re: Can I color my hair?
I've never actually read/heard anything that states it is bad at any time. Some drs. ask you to wait until after the first trimester, but many drs. ask you to refrain from all sorts of things during the first trimester.
The heart of the matter is that the color doesn't sit on your hair long enough to have a chance to seep into your skin and blood. I never gave it a second thought with my first and I've had it done twice so far with this one. I plan on getting it done 1-2 more times depending on how it looks!
Color away!

Re: Can I color my hair?
i read taht you should wait until after the first trimester unless you are just getting highlights - that is safe... because it never touches your head!

Re: Can I color my hair?
holding off until end of first trimester. i am going to have a stripe across the top of my head!!!!!! i plan to dye my hair after that unless i am absolutely told not to. i will not do it every 4-5 weeks while pregnant even though that is my usual schedule. i may try to go over 2 months so that i don't do it a lot while pregnant.

Danielle,
You've seen me... I am so grey that when my roots grow in my part looks like a skunk. My doc said (same doc as Pinky) it's fine after the 12th week. I decided to wait as long as humanly possible. I colored it a few times with a natural colorant that I got at Fairway (imported from Italy) which was ok. I finally caved right before my shower and got a cut and color (semi permanent). I didn't think it would adhere to my grey (never would pre pregnancy) but it actually did.
I'm due again and now that I know I'll have the babies no later than this coming Wednesday I think I'll call tomorrow because God knows after Wednesday it will be difficult to leave the house at all for quite some time.
Just tell your colorist and they will use the semi-permanent.

Re: Can I color my hair?
I did 2 times - red dye - permanent - to my scalp - completely - in my 1st trimester before i left for my honeymoon at about 8 weeks, and then recently in my 3rd trimester... my dr. said it was ok - I never asked twice!
