i need a house!!
i live in Bklyn (in case you cant tell from my name) haha. was fast asleep last night by 9ish, esp tired after schlepping the slippery streets, standing on the packed subway with people practically leaning on me etc. and up early this a.m. walking around my apt because i can hear everyone banging their shovels and the screechy wheels of the tires trying to get out of their spots. I also don't have a washer/dryer and am starting to freak about what to do when the baby is here. We've been looking for a few months now but haven't found anything affordable for us and commutable on LI.
the things that panic me the most:
no washer/dryer no parking (alternate side) i leave my car at my parents house most of the time. how can i do this with a baby? DH works nites sometimes too.
Sorry had to vent!

We are in the same boat. I wish we even had a dishwasher. Good luck!!!!! Maybe we'll be homeowners by the end of the year.

Good luck, that really is a tough situation, I know I couldn't handle all that stress! Maybe if you can't get a house just yet, maybe you could be on a constant search for a better apartment, with at least a washer/dryer or one of the things you really need?

Re: i need a house!!
i'd LOVE a dishwasher too (especially considering the way DH washes dishes - i have to rewash them all the time) Honestly moving to another apt. would be more of a hassle, most apts in private homes don't allow washer/dryers here so it wouldn't help and i've been here awhile so our rent is not bad and close to commute etc...

Re: i need a house!!
I understand where you are coming from. I have no washer/dryer, even though there is an unused set in our basement that the landlord won't let us use, and no dishwasher, even though we have an enormous kitchen with no spot for it Frustrating. There are lots of people who manage, we will too. Try not to get yourself too upset

I know it is stinky, but plenty of people get by with way less than any of us have. It may be hard, but I am sure you will make it work.

I completely understand! we live in a 22 story building and there is always something wrong! our apartment is next to an elevator and the elevator is soooo loud lately I can hardly fall asleep!!! or when I come home, I dream of taking a decent shower and there is no hot water or the water pressure stinks!!! I just want some peace and quiet we will manage somehow though, you will too

Re: i need a house!!
I have a dishwasher and a W/D right now, but the new place I'm moving too doesn't have either. I guess it's like other's said, people have far less than us so I have to take it in stride. Thank goodness for drop off laundry service and paper plates though!

Re: i need a house!!
I know it sounds stressful, but you can make it work. DH and I rented a house in Long Beach for 5 years (and 16 months of that with baby) --we also had no parking (we mastered the dash in and alternate who finds parking--and walk where you can) --no dishwasher (didn't really need one--just had extra bottles to rotate so we were constantly cleaning) --and our laundrymat was down the block(did her clothes weekly or ran a load down midway if we needed)
you make it work. DH and I are 50/50 partners so we really split the duties and helped each other every step of the way. Were there times when I had to schlepp the baby down the block with her diaper bag and my bag for work, yes. but, it can be done
