I personally would not feel comfortable using them...If they do not have the time to meet you, then Im sure they will not have the time to spend with your child during well visits....JMO

I agree...same for any who charge for an interview.
Most expect this and set aside time for it.
I wouldnt feel comfortable with anyone who wouldnt. I want someone dedicated to the practice.

Re: How do you feel about....
Our Ped wasn't affliated with the hospital i gave birth in so he didn't see DD until the day after she came home. That i don't see a big deal with, there are qualified people at the hospital to discharge/look at the baby.
BUT, I wouldn't do one that didn't do an interview. How you suppose to get a feel for his views, the office if he doesn't see you before. That's ridiculous, i would keep going.

Eh. I'm okay with it if you already know a bit about them.
I'm not even planning on setting up an interview with my ped-to-be. I'm using them based on recommendations from friends who have been there and like them and are happy with the attention they get.
Besides - it's not like you are locked into that person if you don't like them.

Re: How do you feel about....
OK thanks -- I decided to see others and then will make my decision.
I haven't really gotten any recommendations, and I want someone who is open to holistic and alternative methods, so it isn't so easy...

Did you get a list from your OB/GYN? I believe that mine gives out a list of recommended peds. It's a place to start. Are there any pediatricians who are D.O.s? They are often more open to alternative medicine, yet qualified in traditional medicine.

Re: How do you feel about....
I didn't meet DD's first pediatritian until the hospital. I guess I just wasn't concerned since the practice came so highly rec. by my OB/GYN....and on a fluke, a diff. dr. did rounds that day and he found a hip defect that many drs. miss. Thanks to him, my daughter does NOT have a limp or deformity.
However, this time around, I plan on getting some referrals and playing detective. I have heard stories of friends here on LI that make my head spin...things the drs. tell them to do and NOT to do that make BIG differences. [once, their child fell, hit his head and vomited....the dr. saw no need to even get xrays and rule out concussion!]
I would be concerned with a dr. that refused to meet with me if I requested it. Even if for 5 minutes to shake hands and get a name with a face.

I am looking into DOs only... I didn't get a list from my OB yet, but maybe when I go to my next appt. He's far from me tho (high-risk) and I would think recommends mostly Drs. in his area....I am in Seaford and don't want to go to Great Neck for every pediatrician visit.
Thanks for the advice gals.
