Would the oil company be responsible for....

Would the oil company be responsible for....a vibration in the heating pipe? We can hear it in the wall...and if you tap the heating pipe with your foot in the bathroom it will stop. It is very annoying....

Our contractor that is doing work here said that he thinks it is coming from the closet where the boiler is, which is under the stairs.

It only started when he opened the wall...and did some work in there...but he swears he wasnt near the heat......

So do you think if I call the oil company that they would fix the vibration?

Scott

Can you check the fine print of your contract?

They can differ in what they cover, some are more comprehensive than others.

It doesn't sound like the oil company would be responsible. It sounds like the wall was keeping the pressure on the pipe (or on something else that was keeping the pressure on the pipe) to keep it from vibrating and when the wall was opened, the pressure was released, hence the vibration (especially since stepping on the pipe stops the problem). You can buy little brackets at Home Depot and you just attach them over the pipe, onto a stud. It holds the pipe tight so there is no vibration.

They did that in one spot but it is still vibrating. The contractor thought there may be air in the pipe, but I told him it never happened until he opened the wall. Also he went behind the sink in our kitchen, and on the other side is the bathroom where this heating noise is really loud...so obviously when he was in there, he hit something....by accident, I am sure....

Did you have a maintenance contract with them?

I would ask them if that's part of it.

I heat what sounds like vibrations to me coming from the baseboard heaters and we don't have oil heat. I think it is just air that might be stuck in the pipes. It doesn't hurt to call your oil company but if you know a plumber I would call them if you are really concerned.

Re: Would the oil company be responsible for....

no.. they can come and bleed out the pipes... it's just air in the pipes.... it's common for air to get in there... we have it all the time... it's a little annoying and sometimes very loud

can't imagine the oil company would do this....but I'm not positive as DH does all of our work himself......so I'm not sure what to expect from contractors.
