Really upset
I got asked to sing a role in an opera this summer by a company in NY. I was so excited. I had told the director that my due date was May 5th and rehearsals start June 11th. Welll now she all of a sudden realized my due date and was like I dont know how you are going to do it?? Is it possible??
I was like what you knew when my due date was and everything. She does not have any children. I told her my doctors said I should be ready to sing on the first day of rehearsal. I am just sitting here crying because I just hate feeling like I have some kind of disease. IM PREGNANT!!! She said we will talk more on Tuesday of this week... So I will keep you updated!!

Re: Really upset
Don't let her bully you.
If you are ready and your doctor says okay that should be enough for her.

Re: Really upset
Ok, as a musician, I have to say that you might not be ready. I hate to sound negative, but I'm a flutist and almost 9 months later, I am not back to my previous level. You know as a singer that resting your voice and your body are extremely important, and maybe the director knows that as a new mom, you may not be able to do those things. Also, what if you have a C section? You never know, and it takes a while to recover from that. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be motivated to take the part, but just don't be surprised that people would question whether or not you are able to do it. It's not doubting your talent, it's just being realistic, as far as I'm concerned. I've put off performing for the first year of my daughter's life because things are too hectic for me to find the proper amount of time to practice. I went from playing for 6 hours a day to an hour a day if I'm lucky. Just be aware that there really is recovery time after having a baby, both physically and mentally.
