Re: Kings Park
I live in Smithtown, but have many friends and family members who live in both Kings PArk and Fort Salonga (which is largely the Kings Park school district) and I have to tell you I am impressed with the district.
When I bought my home, nine yeasr ago, I did not want Kings Park schools, now I wonder if I made a mistake. Although, it is a fairly small district, its test scores are solid and they do alot with what they have.
My sister, who lives in Kings Park (in Archer Woods), calls it Mayberry and in some respects this is true.
Personally, I think it is still somewhat affordable because it carries the stigma of the Psyc center. I can honestly say that alot of locals seem to want it to remain undiscovered.
I think its a community that definitely warrants consideration.

Re: Kings Park
I have family that lives there and if the commute to NYC was more convenient we would have looked there. I really like it.

Re: Kings Park
My family moved to KP when I was a Jr. in High School. I love the neighborhood, the schools are great and it's got great charm. We went looking for houses in other neighborhoods and I found myself always comparing them to KP. You can still find affordable homes with nice size lots and decent taxes. There is still the question of the Psych center. My parents live VERY close to it and quite honestly, you forget it's even there.
The pizza thing is true.

Re: Kings Park
I also grew up in KP and I think it's a nice place to live. Like most towns there are more and less desirable sections.
However, just to clear up some of the things said on the other thread - San Remo is not split up by sunken meadow or the sunken meadow parkway....
San Remo is no where near the dumps. in fact, the two could not be further apart and still both remain part of Kings Park!
San Remo is not the least desirable section of KP. Maybe at one time - but over the past 10-20 years there has been a lot of work done to the homes in that area....
I could never move back there just because the commute to NYC is much longer than i can personally tolerate - so I would not recommend KP if you commute to the city.

I think it's really nice. All of the homes are different, so you don't have the uniform look. It's very hilly and has winding roads. My only complaint, is that over the summer, becuase of the proximity to the water, the mosquitos are really annoying. Other than that, it's great.

Re: Kings Park
Funny thing about San Remo, part of it is a Smithtown address but Kings Park schools. My brother in law lives right behind the new homes that have been built on the old St. Anthony's property. Imo this is becoming a pretty desirable area and as a prior poster said is in no way the least desirable section of King Park. As you go a little further north there are truly some breathtaking homes being built which are listing in the million dollar range.

Re: Kings Park
That house is not very far from where my mother lives now. It's right off 25A. That are is okay - not the best but certainly not the worst area either. it will probably be one of the nicest homes on the block though.....

Re: Kings Park
Parts of Kings Park are nice, and parts I wouldn't want to live in. The parts I wouldn't want to live in aren't bad areas, the houses are just right on top of each other and very close to the road.
They just did major construction on KP High School last year (much needed IMO), and it looks really nice now.

Re: Kings Park
I agree not the best area and not the worst. That house has been on the market a while and I think its because its one of the better homes on the block.

Re: Kings Park
The first house I bought was in San Remo, north of St. Johnland Rd. It was such a nice area - quiet, lots of families, nice neighbors and decent size properties but still affordable prices. For me, it was a little too far from the parkways. I like to be closer to main areas with stores, restaurants, etc. There are some in the town but you have to travel for most. The schools are good. It does have a very small town feel.

Re: Kings Park
We just put an offer on a house in Kings Park and it was accepted. If all goes well we will be living there by the end of April. We are moving from eastern long island to Kings Park. It just seemed to be the perfect town for us.
