Re: Thinking of Suffolk...

Babylon and West Islip are nice. The Babylon train (also close to WI) has an express to Manhattan that is about 47 minutes. I think the West Islip SD is supposed to be better though.

Huntington has some nice areas but the HS is a mix of all of the areas so.... We live in East Northport (Northport SD #4). Some houses in East Northport are Commack and some Elwoord. Both of those districts are good but the taxes are much higher. It's an excellent district, the taxes are lower due to LIPA being located in the area. It's probably the lowest taxes in the area. We also relaly like how it has a town... feels like New England. We have TWO train stations close by... East Northport and Greenlawn and there's always Huntington which runs more trains.

We are moving but not leaving the school district... just straight across town. Our new house is 1/2 an acre and taxes are a little less than $9,000.Chat Icon although I'm sure they will go up a bit after the purchase.

I commuted from the Islip train station for over a year and it was not good. There are no direct trains and the ride was an hour and 15 mins with many stops. There were very few trains coming home nights. The best train was the direct from Babylon, but it is very difficult to find parking there.

Greenlawn has a great school district (Harborfields) and is very close to the Huntington train station.

it you read about the latest?? The sellers came back wanting 14k more than they proposed after our initial offer (they wanted $15k more than our initial, so now it's $29k more than our offer), so I told them we will not go a penny higher than we first agreed on and they have a week to decide Chat Icon
... so instead of putting all our hopes into this house, we are going to look at others, just decided today maybe we should consider suffolk as well...

now we are looking at Babylon and Huntington.

Yes, but I grew up there and it is my DREAM town. I love everything about it. The train ride kinda long though.. but location near the beaches, parkway, nice little main street,it is just my favorite townChat Icon

We are in Greenlawn...and DH goes to Huntington for the train...its about 1 hour 20 min door-door for him

we also bid on a house in Centerport (just north) and the commute to the station was only a tiny bit longer...same school district

Re: Thinking of Suffolk...

If you are thinking further out east, Mount Sinai and Miller Place are really good districts too, but expensive taxes.

I LOVE East Northport where I grew up.

Re: Thinking of Suffolk...

If you go a little further out... you can hit Ronkonkoma... Holtsville... Holbrook... and you can commute from Manhattan on the Ronkonkoma Express.

You can get a lot more house for your money out there.
