Did anyone buy a house for more than what the county assessed it at?
I called about possibly grieving my taxes being my school taxes went up almost $2,000. Apparently, I can't grieve them b/c the county assessed my house around $35,000 less than what we actually payed for it last April, so in actuality my taxes should be more $$$. What the f***???? I know the town usually under assesses b/c they just drive by and don't do full appraisals inside and out like the companies do when you purchase a home but has this happened to anyone else? Should this concern me?

they are always going to under asses the house. especially since they don't come in and consider what changes have been made to the house. the house my dh and i bought was higher then the assesed value because there was an addition that was added on after they "saw" the house"

Try this website it has assesed value and then at the bottom, estimated market value, it could be assesed value is a percentage of market value therefore making assesed value seem lower than should be when it really is higher than it should be.

Re: Did anyone buy a house for more than what the county assessed it at?
I already check mynassauproperty.com. It matches what the tax attorney said my house was assessed at. It just sucks b/c my taxes are over $10,000 now for 1/4 acre of property. We haven't even lived in the house a year. We have an addition on the house as well is fairly new. I am sure that was taken into consideration for the assessment. Oh well, gotta love LI.

my house assessment is about $75000 less than the appraisal. The assessment is just for tax purposes and it's fine with me that it's under the appraisal.
Nassau also recently did a new assessment and my taxes went up $2K over the last 2 years. They listed my house at $275k and it's now assessed at $475.
