If you were in your mid-20s and did not want kids...

would you get sterilized?

I know someone from another site who went to a doctor because she wants to be sterilized. The doc wouldn't do it, so she's looking for another one.

I asked her if she was really sure, that she's only 25 and you can't always predict how you'll feel in 5, 10 years. She said she was totally sure.

I can't imagine being THAT sure. I would not do it!! I would just be super careful about birth control and probably use multiple methods.

not unless getting PG could potenitally kill me. at 25, how is she going to know how she will feel in 2, 3 or 4 years?

I don't think I would (can't answer for certain, but I've always intended to have kids).

but, there are lots of procedures that I've thought about doing, but will probably never do any of them because I fear something would go wrong.

Oh, except my tonsils. Had them removed- best decision EVER

NO WAY!

In my early 20's I didn't think I wanted children and then my motherly instinct kicked in and I will be a mom in a matter of days.

I can't imagine making such a permanent decision at such a young age.

Unless I knew becoming pregnant would be a serious risk to my health, or I was positive that I would pass some horrendous disease on to my child, I could never be that sure.

I have always felt that I didn't want to have children but have always said "I might feel different about it in 5 years".
I am now 31 and still don't wish to have children but ever now and then when I see my nephew or see FH with a baby I get a little pinch in my uterus and think that maybe someday (but then after a while I say what am I nuts LOL)

No way! I'm undecided, leaning towards no. But it is always possible that I'll change my mind, and I wouldn't do something that permanent unless I knew getting pregnant would be very dangerous to my health. We are really responsible about BC, too.

Actually as i have gotten older the fear has set in more than the "idea of it" back when i was in my early to mid 20's...

but i would hope that NO DOCTOR would ever perform such a procedure on someone that young

NO. And I was unsure about wanting children, but I would never sterlize at 25 and I don't think many Drs would do it. My SIL swore she didn't want children since a very young age. She is now 35 and just decided she wants to TTC. You just don't know how you'll feel later on and that's one decision you could regret immeasurably.

I'm in my mid 20's and have little girl but I don't want anymore. If it was my choice I would get my tubes tied!!

I pretty much decided that I would not have kids in my middle 20's and not once have I ever thought about having one in the 10+ years since I came to that decision. Being the big chicken that I am I didn't have the guts to get my tubes tied but it was something I thought about.

While it's young, there are just some things you just know about yourself that won't change. And I think that if someone is willing to take such a drastic step to prevent pregnancy they have thought it through and know themselves better then other people may think.
