ultrascreen monday
Can you tell me exactly what they measure when they measure the neck. I want to know a little more iinfo in it, plus did they prick your finger or take a blood test. should i be concerned thanks.

From what I can remember they are basically looking for "neck folds" as a sign of Downs. to be honest, I didn't read too much on it because I didn't want to freak myself out.
They also look at various other body parts/organs depending upon where you in in development. I've had about 3 or 4 now (I have more than most due to multiples) so I'll try to give you the run down of what they look for:
heart- 4 chambers
brain/skull
neck
arm measurement
femur (leg measurement)
kidneys
stomach
mid section diameter
sex organs (can't be positive until around 20 weeks)
I could be leaving one or two out but from all of those measurements then then guess the weight of the baby.
As far as the blood test, I can't remember. What blood test would you be going for? I think we did Tay-Sachs around that time.

The blood test with the ultrascreen was only a fingerprick for me...i think they needed 4 or 5 drops of blood...not too bad...I was never sure of exactly what they were looking for with the ultrasound, so I just sat there and stared at my baby moving and figured that the technician would take care of the rest!

i had a HUGE magority of it done in the maternity packet. this is something differnt- the finger prick
