Re: Need your honest opinions SORRY LONG

Posted by SHOPAHOLIC

DH's family has a tradition of naming the first born son after the husbands father.

DH is very big on tradition and this particular tradition goes back as far as can be traced and no one in his family to date has gone against tradition ( although I know from other family members in the future they might be breaking tradition)

So if keeping this tradition meant a great deal to your DH and you thought the name was OK, but didn't love it
what would you do?

PS I offered to put it as a middle name It's better then nothing but the family still won't really be happy as it is not the tradition.

I don't want to be the first person not to go with tradition, and I don't want to hurt/upset my IL's who this means a great deal to, and even more my DH who has always thought this is the name he would use when he had children..

any advice?

I would go with it.
tradition is important.
the way I see it is it is the birthright of your son to be named after his grandfather- I think if you don't do it your DS might thing- hey why aren't I named after grandpa?

My DD is named Madeline which is my mom's name, my grandma's name and my grandma's grandma's name...

oh another idea-i have a friend who named her DS after her husband- which she wasn't thrilled about- but she calls her DS by his middle name.

Re: Need your honest opinions SORRY LONG

I never loved my DH's name but I love him and he wants to make it the III so I happily will do so. There is nothing I would love more than to give him a son that is his namesake, it would just make him so happy! No name that I like better is worth the trade off of not making a small dream of DH's come true. I have to say too that I knew before I married DH that he would want to name his son after him. Personally I think its an honor to carry the tradition.
