Would you do it?

DH and I have an 02 Infiniti SUV. We LOVE it and it is fully paid off.

DH started talking this weekend about the price of gas ( its now almost $70 to fill upChat Icon ) and he wants to sell our SUV and buy a car that is better on gas.
I think its stupid to sell our paid of really nice truck for something we will owe payments on ( and trust me whatever DH picks out.. we WILL have payments on)

We originally got an SUV when our son was born with all the stuff we had to lug around, etc.
Now hes older, dosen't use a stroller, etc so I guess we dont REALLY need the extra space

ETA: Are cars THAT much better on gas then suvs???? I know it will NOT be one of those cars that are great on gas.. DH just dosent have that kind of taste in cars!

Re: Would you do it?

We are trying to sell DH Pick up truck & get a hybrid. There are hybrid trucks if you want, but they are hard to get as they are back-ordered AND getting up to $7000 over sticker. Lexus has a hybrid truck that is fast as hell & gets 30 MPG.

ETA I have a Scion & I get 30 or so MPG

I have a QX4 (also paid off) I'm keeping it, but I work in the city, so I don't have to drive that often anyway.

Re: Would you do it?

Hmmmm I have an 04 Infiniti FX 45 and its a gas guzzler, but I wouldnt go from an suv to a car- just personal preference - unless its the lexus convertableChat Icon , but I just saw on cnbc today that some cars dont get great gas mileage either and the hybrids dont bigtime either- so I think I will stay with an suv- you never know when you will need to trek stuff around.
also is that the only vehicle you guys have?

We have the same truckChat Icon

I think its a combination of the cost of the gas and that our car is in for service for the second time in a short amount of time, so hes probably just annoyed.
Hopefully he will drop the idea!!

Re: Would you do it?

ok, IF you could swing it, I'd hang onto the SUV, and buy a cheap, used car (cash).

My car was $2500 (97 mercury sable, purchased Jan 03 from a private seller). I get about 22mpg.

Re: Would you do it?

I would keep it since its paid off.

Gas is going to **** regardless of what you drive.

And there are PLENTY of other people out there with the same idea you have... dump the SUV. Well thats going to lead to some seriously BAD resale values for SUVs. Not worth it IMO.
