Re: changing table essentials

You basically only need diapers, wipes and whatever diaper rash ointment you want to use. DO NOT USE POWDER- it can hurt their little lungs.

Re: changing table essentials

DO NOT use baby oil.

It's VERY bad for them. It's chemically altered. In short, it will clog their pores and suck the vitamins/nutrients in their body.

How do I know? I am a massage therapist and trained in infant massage.

Best oil is a nut free, fragnance free oil. Olive oil, etc...

and cause issues for girls!

i stock them up with diapers, burp cloths, waterproof pads [for the changing table and/or crib], towels, washcloths and soaps/lotions/ointments.

hint: don't USE the ointments unless there is a problem [diaper rash].Chat Icon

Im going to disagree with this...only because I have been told to use desitin or butt paste on a daily basis to avoid diaper rash. It seals off water , which if your not using powder is going to hurt the baby's skin.

I am confused about this as well....some people say to use the diaper cream at every changing, some say only to use it when/if they have diaper rash...ahhh, which is it ?

Re: changing table essentials

I use A&D ointment at every changing- that is VERY different from the zinc diaper rash treatment.
A&D doesn't treat diaper rash- it seals skin from moisture.

I found corn starch powder to be usefull in her little rolls that start to smell cheesy.... Chat Icon

I think just diapers, wipes, ointment--oh and I also used little alcohol pads for the cord before it fell off. I think there might be some controversy about that too though. Anyhow, I'm currently still in the diaper situation, so there's not much I'll need to "stock up" on except for teeny tiny diapers!

As far as the ointment...I use Balmex, but only if there's a rash, which is to say, next to never.

Our nurses at the hospital told us to use vaseline at every diaper change--just squirt it in the diaper, don't rub on; evidently it keeps moisture away. We were so anal (hahaha) about that for like 2-3 weeks and I don't think we ever used it again after that--a lot of advice goes out the window, trust me!

Baby oil is bad.

I would not use fragnanced oil personally due to their sensitive skin. But you can try. If baby get a rash... stop it!

Re: changing table essentials

I never used ointment when changing my son and he rarely got diaper rash. Diapers are so absorbent that the wetness doesn't really touch their skin. The only time I used it was when there was a rash.
