why does everyone say 9 months
when we really are considered pregnant for 40 weeks which is 10 months?

keep in mind the first "month" includes 2 weeks which actually are your regular menstrual cycle prior to ovulating.

It's all a big lie to make you feel better that you arent' pg forever!!
Seriously though, they should change it to 10 months of pg, i guess they consider that 1st month you really aren't technically pregnant, since the 1st week is af, then next week ovulation, then the 2ww.

I had this exact discussion with my co-workers yesterday. They asked what month I was in, I said I am at the end of my 5th month, they said, Oh, you are due in May? I said, no June. The woman then argued that I was only 4 months then. I actually explained the whole thing to her. It was pointless, she still thinks I am 4 months. Whatever.

I heard it had something to do with cycles of the moon.
I think older women ask the month, younger women know to ask by week.

right - there is usually 4.5 weeks in each month. The whole month thing is just confusing. And if you tell someone weeks they look at you with 5 heads

I hate it too. I always tell people in weeks, and then if they PUSH for a month, I will say something like "I am in my 3rd, or 4th, or whatever it is - month"

Actually, we arent pregnant for 10 months. Keep in mind that there are more like 4.5 weeks in a month, not 4.

and also, every month is not exactly 4 weeks (only feb is exactly 4 weeks - 28 days)

Technically, a month is (average) 4.3 weeks long. That makes a 40 week pg about 9 months and a few days...
