materi. leave ??
ok so this is the question i have,,,
first to let you know i am crazy....
ok so i am due on april 27, which is the last week of classes here, the first week of may is final week, and then we as teachers come in for 2 1/2 weeks for meetings which are not every day, and not all day, you get a schedule and follow when you need to come in and stuff.... so HR just called me back and told me that i will go on short term disability for 6 weeks, which is not my full pay, so i said to them, well what if i just take a 5 sicks days, (week that I give birth) and that is it, then just come in for the 2 weeks of meeting and bring Madison with me (The dean is ok with this) and get my full pay since we get paid anyway threw the summer. she said you can't do that and i said why i am going to work (I did not say i was bringing my daughter) so now i am thinking i am going to do it for the 2 weeks and just get my full pay and then i don't have to be back at work until September. what would you girls do, disablity not full pay which is silly bc i would only miss 2 weeks of work before we leave, or come for whatever meetings which is not a full day like 2 or 3 hours a day for 3 days to get my full pay for the full 6 weeks.....
sorry so long, but dh agrees with me to work the 2 weeks and bring her with me, for the little time for my full pay.... THanks for reading and give ur honest oppin.
o and there are no students here, just the adult teachers.

Re: materi. leave ??
In your case, I would try to do the two weeks and see how that goes, if the dean is ok with you bringing her in, then I am sure everything would be fine.
It probably will suck, but at least it is for a very short amount of time.

i don't think that you will be able to go back to work 5 days after delivering. Especially with a baby. I could barely walk out of the hospital.

Re: materi. leave ??
but maybe if you go later... most women go to 42 weeks especially if its your first...
So then it would work out perfect.

I agree. And you simply won't want to go in to work, you'll want to sleep/relax [while your baby is] and spend that precious time with your baby...not coworkers. Besides, soon as you take her, someone will have a bad cold and you'll be paranoid that she caught it!

I would try to stick it out for the two weeks. Everyone recovers differently from childbirth - I would have been able to work a couple of hours over the two weeks after giving birth, and I had a section for twins. You're body will let you know if you can't handle it.

Re: materi. leave ??
see that is where i am up in the air, i know that i am going to be sleepy but it is only 2 oor 3 hours a day if that. i might have to do 2 meetings a day and my mom can keep her for 2 days, but it is only 10 days, and it would go quick, i don't know , i just don't want to loose all that money, HR told me that they pay 1/4 which sucks, and would be nothing, i guess i will see as the time goes.

Re: materi. leave ??
Honestly the money really wouldn't be worth it to me. Will they let you use your sick days regardless and then start your disability? That's what my job did. They paid me for my remaining 10 vacation days, then put in the application for disability so they would not interefere. When I say the money isn't really worth it...I had a quick and easy delivery and just tore a tiny bit on my own and when I got home, aside from my hormones being all out of whack and crying at every little thing and being overwhelmed with motherhood, I could barely sit down easily I was so sore. It hurt even to sit on the couch. You can wait until the time comes and then decide, if they allow you to do that. Good luck!

Re: materi. leave ??
I do not think you will be able to go in to work because your doctor has to sign off it and I don't know if any doctor will sign off on that.
Also, in regards to bringing the baby...I think it would be a little too soon to bring a brand new baby around all those people and germs.

Re: materi. leave ??
I would definitely try and do it. It may suck, but if you have a great support system and your dean is also being helpful, this would be huge. Money worries are the worst...
if you have a to use a sick day in the middle of it, can you?
this may be a lot easier for a natural birth, I am not sure about a c-section....
