I have a stupid question
I'm asking this because I really dont know the answer. Is it neccessary to put the baby in a basinet for the first few weeks? Or can the baby go right into the crib? Is it more for your convience?

Re: I have a stupid question
I think it is more of a convienance. 2 of my friends put them in their cribs right away. I see nothing wrong with it.

Re: I have a stupid question
It is not necessary. I was BF and it was easier having him closer to me.
I also liked staring at him and felt most comfortable that he was right there.

Re: I have a stupid question
The baby can go right in the crib from the very start.
In my own mind, why spend $$ on the furniture and bedding you'll need for it to only stop using it quite soon once the baby is too big? I also think it's best that the baby begin sleeping in the bed from the start so they are used to it and not upset by the change later. Babies don't like change much, just ask any mom who has moved [to a new home] a child under the age of 1. That's me though.

Re: I have a stupid question
My friend was told to buy the pack n play with the built in bassinette. She told me the same thing, so that's what I'm doing. She's not the only one that told us that was the best decision they made.

Re: I have a stupid question
I read some place that the reason why they tell you to put the baby in the basent is becuas its a small area you can put the baby in the crib but you should section it off 1/2 way they were used to being in your womb (small place) it just makes them feel more secure

Re: I have a stupid question
the baby can go right into the crib...alot of mom's on the parenting board have done this. I am going to keep my baby in her bassinet for a few weeks just for convenience with breast feeding.

Re: I have a stupid question
The thing with the bassinet/moses basket/co-sleeper is that the baby is used to being all nice and cozy in your womb, the crib is like a huge empty space for a newborn. The nice things about bassinets etc is that they feel all nice and tightly packed in.
