During labor...when did you call your Dr?
Did you call as soon as you started having contractions or did you wait until they were a certain time apart? I want to labor at home as long as possible, but at the same time I don't want to have the baby at home I'm worried because my labor with my dd was so quick

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
With my second, I knew I was in labor and held off on calling the doc because DH was trying to convince me it was a reaction from the pizza I had for dinner that night The contractions were every 10 minutes. I finally called the doc and we went to hospital at 4 a.m. and I was 7 cm. already!

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I was having pain from 7pm at night. I tried to call my dr around 7:30am but the answering service didn't pick up! I waited until the contractions were less than 5 min apart and arrived at the hospital @ 8am. When they checked me I was 3-4 cm dilated. I delivered at 1:25pm. I loved laboring at home!

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I waited until my contractions were lasting 1 minute every 4 minutes and when I got their I was between 5&6cm. My dr. did say that the guidelines for susequant children is different that they dont have you wait that long because you usually labor quicker so I would ask your doctor what he wants you to do.

I was wondering about that too, all my dr keeps saying is that labor is 100% different ball game for second kids. I hope so, my birth experience with DD was horrid!
With DD i waited til the contractions were 4-5 minutes apart, and very uncomfortable. I went from zero dilated from my appt that same day to 2 cms when i went to hospital at 4-5am, by 8 am i was 4 cms and got my epi.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I actually had an appointment that day, so I didn't call, but when he examined me he told me I still had 2 days!
He told me to wait until 2-3 min apart (they were 10-15). the next day I called at 5-6 mins b/c they were too painful to take. So I think you have to take many things into consideration. And being that you had a previous quick labor - that would be a factor for me. How far are you from the hospital?

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I woke up with what I thought was a stomach ache around 3:45 am and realized it was contractions already 5 minutes apart by 4:15 am so we called pretty quickly being my last appt. I was 90% effaced and 3cm dialated. I ended up having the baby at 2:42 pm that day - it took some time for me to dialate more. As soon as I was dialated she popped right out! I think they say 5 minutes apart for at least 1 hour but once they are 5 min apart they are pretty darn painful! And like you since I knew I was all thinned out I didn't want her being born at home!

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I was already almost a week past my due date and I started having contractions in the middle of the night. At first I wasn't sure if they were contractions so I didn't want to call my doctor and wake her. hahahaha..... But then they became more frequent and when they were 5 mins. apart I called the doctor. She told me to take my time and shower and stuff and go to the hospital. Since it was my first, I would probably be in labor for a very long time. I got to the hospital around 8/8:30am and I had the baby later that evening. Everyone tells me that with the second baby it will be a lot quicker than the first. I'll just follow what my doc tells me to do, but like you I definitely wouldn't want to give birth at home.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
My doc told me not to call her until the contractions were 5 min apart for at least 1.5-2 hours. I woke up at 6am with contractions. I didn't say anything to DH, I just went downstairs and started timing them. They were about 8-9 min apart. I continued to time them until they were 6-7 min apart. I woke DH up around 10am to tell him that I thought I was in labor. Around 12:30pm, I called the doc's office and told them how far apart they were. They told me to go ahead to the hospital. We all took a shower, I stopped at Quinzo's to get something to eat (practically swallowed the sandwich whole in the car) and got to the hospital at 2:30pm. I was 4cm when they checked me....I ended up having a really long labor. Nate wasn't born until 2:48am the next morning.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I didn't experience the whole contraction thing with my first since I was induced after my water was leaking. Of course I had contractions in the hospital, but the Petocin made them 1000 times stronger and I got an epidural shortly thereafter. I'm so nervous about them hurting and hurting for hours until they tell me to come in. Do they really hurt THAT bad?

IMHO, contractions aren't that bad, it's all manageable... it's painful, but you know it's for a good reason and that it definitely has an end and the end result is worth it all.... you just have to relax and it'll be fine! I had my dd drug free and I'll do the same this time... I'm not worried about the pain, I'm worried about giving birth in the car

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
Posted by JennChris I'm worried because my labor with my dd was so quick
I was in the same boat with Maddie. (7 minutes in the hospital, not even 1 full push and barely made it onto the hospital bed).
Not sure how quickly you went with dd, but I would opt to call when I feel the first contraction (or at least when I'm sure they're regular). My doctor told me that I had a 1 in 3 chance of delivering outside the hospital if I decide to go for #3 and for the next labor I would have to head to the hospital as soon as I realized the contractions are regular.
There aren't many women that can go through that second stage of labor still think it the first stage. If you're one of them, call them asap.
eta. to answer sorry I thew out advice & don't answer the question
I called after laboring with Joseph (#1) after contractions were regular (5 hours of labor), showed up at the hosp. 5cm dialated, and was sure I was only getting evaluated & released because it wasn't real labor.
I called after laboring an hour (regular contractions) with Maddie (#2) on the way to the hospital. Showed up 10 cm. & still thought I had hours left of labor.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I called right away because my water broke and I had no contractions. They had me come in to get "checked" and sure enough they kept me there. They tried inducing me, I had some contractions, but no major ones. I only got to 2 cms and they decided on a c section after all. I was told to call 5 mins. apart for an hour, but, I didn't have to do that.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I had been having contractions for about 5hrs. I decided to call my doc when they were more consistent and coming about every 5-6 mins. When I got to the hospital (8AM) I was 4cm. I didn't have my son until 559pm.

Re: During labor...when did you call your Dr?
I waited until I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to be at home as long as possible, so I waited until they were so painful that nothing was helping.
