Thank you all so much for the post and the fms! 
So here's the deal:
We went for our 23 week appt last night and I told both the person who sets me up and the doctor what had happened. They both felt so bad about the doctor being an idiot and both promised that we would find out. We just have to work around the insurance. Since this is such a low-risk pregnancy and the baby has been doing really well it's hard to justify the need for a sonogram. Apparently I won't be having anymore - not even a growth one. Unless of course something is wrong or something is off So...since my level 2 was good and only a few weeks ago we couldn't do anything last night but hopefully we can see the baby at the next appt.
I honestly was 100% fine with that since my doctor explained the reason and really talked to me like a person. I know that when she says that she will find out she means it...so I can wait.
In the meanwhile - we got a different kind of present last night. DH hasn't been able to feel the baby kick or move and he has been good about not showing his disappointment but I know it's there. Last night they let us listen to the heartbeat a little longer and DH got to hear the baby kick  He was smiles the rest of the night.
Thank you all so much for sharing this rollercoaster ride with me. I'm at the point where I have to laugh.

awwwwwwwwww well at least ur dh got to hear he/she kick! i am so happy things are ok, but i can't wait to find out and if you don't find out it is ok, as long as ur little one is healthy!

He was on top of the world. I was dying laughing just looking at him.
Okay - I definitely need to hear more about the 4D sono. Where in East Meadow? How far along do you have to be? Is it safe?

Not sure what your financial situation is- but why not do a 3D sono and pay out of pocket. I think just for gender determination it's less than 100 dollars.
I hope you get your answer soon. I'm so glad the baby is healthy and that DH got to hear what you've been feeling.....

My cousin just got hers done and she is 4 weeks ahead of me- I think it can be done from 18-30 something but I'm not positive. FM me your email address and I will forward you these pics - they are amazing. You actually see her little boy flexing his muscles. It is unbelievable.

thanks for the update, I have been waiting for it since yesterday!!! glad your DH got to experience baby kicking, how special for him

I had it done I was 32 weeks. This is what the website says:
How far along should I be before I have a 4D sonogram?
If you plan on having only one session, we recommend having the exam performed between 24 and 34 weeks. However, excellent images can be obtained from 16 to 38 weeks. Many mothers opt for our 2-visit Platinum package to see the baby's growth from the second to the third trimester. For twins, we recommend scans before 30 weeks.
It was great, the pics are in my profile and he confirmed it was a boy. We already knew but if you want to find out this is def worth doing. We got the package for $195 and got a 1/2 hour DVD and a bunch of pics.

aww that is nice that he was able to hear the heart beat and the kicks.
Atleast she was understaning with you and she is trying.
Yah insurance companys want reasons. It is so stuiped.
But hopefully next app u can see.

Thanks Denise...maybe you can help me win him over. He read some stupid article about how it's all new and the techs aren't doctors - not that I share this view at all. Now he is scared about doing it.  I am hoping that since so many girls here have recommended East Meadow that he will reconsider.

What insurance do you have? I have United and they said they dont have a limit on the number of sonograms you're allowed to have.
My 4d sonogram was also covered by my insurance - but that might have been because it was done at NYU medical center - where my doctor is affiliated. . . but you might want to check it out.
I DEFINITELY recommend the 4d sonogram - it's amazing!
