When do we start shopping around for pediatricians?
I'm thinking I should get on that soon - of course, at 31 weeks, I should get on completing my registry and ordering furniture as well - only so much one can do when working full time, moving, studying for a huge exam, picking up my stepdaughters, and DH working 12 hours a day and on weekends too....
But anyway - I digress - when do we start looking?
Also - anyone familiar with the pediatricians in Huntington Medical Group?

I have already started asking my friends who have kids & my OB her recommendations. Eventually I will call the practices & find out more about them.

I think around this time my ob/gyn asked me if i had any candidates for my first. I said no. He was raising his 2 year old grandchild at the time so he rec. her dr. They were a FANTASTIC practice. I highly rec. just asking your OB/GYN and see where that takes you. I will likely do that as my daughter doesn't have a NY dr. yet and I know squat about the drs. on LI.

we started asking for references from our ob.gyn and friends about a month ago. and then researched them.
today we have our first consult meeting. so i would say get started now. cuz i was told your baby will have to see his pediatrician the week after he's born. also, i'm getting pretty tired of lugging my fat self to places ;) so i must get this important task done while i can still do it.

I am 26 weeks and I started setting up appts with pediatricians that my friends with kids recommend in the vicinity I will be living in

I am 31 weeks as well. I set up an appt. with a pediatrician for February. I think doing it next month should be ok. Actually, now that I think about it, Feb. is only a few days away.

You should start looking for one now. I was told anytime after 7 months is a good time to look.

Do a search on the Parenting Board for him! He's at Huntington Medical Group. You can't beat his hours either.
eta. Sorry to answer your question, I planned on doing it at 35-36 weeks but ds had other plans arriving at 34 weeks. I asked for a recommendation while I was in labor.

Barbara - don't apologize for answering my questions!!! So far, you have not steered me wrong once!!! 
ESPECIALLY - you are referring me to someone at Huntington Medical Group - where I was hoping to go - how cool are you? I think I have heard of him - my cousin may send her daughters there as well - I'll look into it...
BUT - you are NOT allowed to tell me you gave birth early. No one is. I refuse to hear it. The baby has 9 weeks, and I tell it every day that I LOVE baby, but he/she can certainly take his/her sweet @ss time coming here. Mommy is very busy getting ready....

Yeah. I need to do this too.
My excuse ( ) is that I would ask my ob, but she is on MY insurance and the baby is on DH's and we are just getting the books and stuff now.
